Republicans Who Support Gay Marriage
« on: February 27, 2013, 08:59:31 pm »
Finally, some good news from Republicans! Over 80 100 Republicans have signed an amicus brief before the Supreme Court urging them to legalize same-sex marriage. Amicus briefs have some tendency to influence the Justices, and I believe this is especially the case when there appears to be bipartisan support for a particular ruling. It could convince the Supreme Court that the country is now ready for a massive change like gay marriage in all fifty states. In addition, several large corporations have signed onto a brief explaining that same-sex marriage will result in many economic benefits. This strengthens my opinion that we will see a 5-4 decision striking down both DOMA and Prop 8.

EDIT: More Republicans are signing on!

That's good to hear, but I'm still skeptical that it'll work because the Republican Party doesn't care about the sane members, it cares about the extremist fringe.

Not for much longer, it won't.  Listening to the fringe cost them 2012.  What makes you think they'll keep it up?

Cynicism.

Which I'm going to concur with unless the Republican party actually changes its ways.

Bear in mind that the Republicans who signed onto this brief aren't trying to persuade their fellow Republicans--they're trying to persuade the Supreme Court. That is a far simpler task in comparison.

EDIT: Even Dirty Harry himself signed on.

It'll be a painful split since Grover Nornquist will basically sabotage the party from within if the party tries to leave his gibbering Tea Partists behind. Because all they are is bitter reactionaries, they aren't in any way productive when it comes to politics. I know there's problems with the politics, but their objectives are completely contradictory to reality.

Props to them.  The sad part is knowing some of the people who vote for them, they may have just sabotaged their careers.

So, Obama's actually doing something related to one of his promises?

Sweet.

Actually when he first ran for President he said he disagreed with same-sex marriage. So on this issue I'm actually glad he changed his mind, haha.

That loud "BANG" sound was about a dozen Freepers' heads exploding in unison.

(Seriously they're already calling the Republicans a bunch of socialist traitors!)

He made it a campaign platform for second term, though.

Oh yeah, I forgot the Democratic Party officially adopted a pro-gay marriage stance. It's been a long day @_@
