So, some of you may have seen the picture of me I posted in the Member Picture Thread with tape over my mouth. If not, got check it out real quick, because here's the promised context.
Last Monday, my University's president was being interviewed by students and indicated that if gay employees of the school were "public about it and made it an issue, we'd have trouble". This got many students talking about our campus's culture and how we treat minorities of all kinds. A few friends and I began a movement, Redefine Purple Pride, seeking to get sexual orientation and gender identity added to our school's official non-discrimination policy, and to have diversity programs created/increased on campus. It's been remarkably big— we have a change.org petition (
https://www.change.org/petitions/adopt-a-lgbtq-friendly-all-inclusive-non-discrimination-policy-at-the-university-of-portland) that's at nearly 1000 signatures, as well as two videos we've made. One video was just a few interviews of students around campus— it's the first video below. The second, launched barely an hour ago, is a prepared speech with a few personal stories. I'm proud to say I wrote the entire scripted portion myself. Enjoy, and spread it around!
