I have an honest question to anyone out there who collects toys/action figures. What do you do with them? I mean, I realize they go up on a shelf and not get played with. But the rest, I don't get. You look at them from time to time and ...? Some people like baseball cards or coins or stamps. Those things can go in a drawer when not being looked at. Art can hang on a wall along with John's new bad ass sword. (If you haven't yet, check out John's new bad ass sword on the Creative Outlet section.) But toys, I don't get.
I am not trying to belittle anyone or be a jack ass. I am really trying to get this. If anyone does collect, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Shit, I play with mine.

Shit, I play with mine.
I like to put clothes on my old dolls. And I want a Twilight Sparkle pony so I can comb her pretty pretty mane.
...okay, that sounded a LOT less creepy in my head.

I don't know, you probably shouldn't hang Art Vandelay on the wall.

<~ Nerd. I have a few dragon statues, and the Argonath from LoTR on "display". While they're not toys, I think it runs along the same line. I appreciate the craftsmanship that went into making these things, and I enjoy looking at them. That's pretty much it.
To me, the only difference between a toy collection and a statue/figurine collection is that toys are better for playing with.

And yet you still read it, wrote your addendum and posted it.
I love you. ;D

@Mlle Antechrist, I was more thinking Garfunkle.

When I had the original Pony line I would cut off their manes.

I did that to all my Barbies. I was always pissed that Ken's hair was plastic and I couldn't give him a buzz cut too.

I have a couple toys that I don't really play with often, and I just like seeing them in their places, including my G4 Pinkie Pie.

Toys are just great decorations. It's a good way to show your interests and make all that empty space visually interesting. Like here:

And here:

And also here as well (though a more up-to-date version of this one would have Pinkie Pie and Sweetie Belle in it):

And, if you're like Tai (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Cloudcuckoolander), maybe sometimes you think about, if Toy Story is accurate, what do they do all day? What sorts of conversations do they have? Do they keep in character, or will heroes and villains converse amicably? Are they proud to be decorations, or disappointed that I don't play with them? The possibilities are endless~
Anyways, long story short, they're just another thing for Tai to spend money on, and that's always nice. =3

Is that custom Derpy in the second photo, Tai??
-
Alas, no, I don't have anything custom. But if I did, Derpy would be the first thing I'd do.

I play with some of my old collection, but not as often as I used to.

I still have a vast collection of prehistoric animal figures, and yes, I do still play with them. I would like to display them according to time period and discovery site, but I sadly do not have enough room.
-
Cool. It seems like most people here still play with theirs. That makes me happy. And I'll admit I still play with a couple of mine.

Barbie got a buzzcut and her clothes off.

I agree with this. I don't do much with my anime figures, they're just there to look pretty. Though to be honest I don't buy them as much as I used to.

I have an old Kikyo and Miroku from InuYasha if anyone wants 'em. They're still in fairly decent condition, and I don't have any place to display them in my condo. (PM for more details.)

I used to have about 30 original MLPs spanning the top shelves of 2 bookcases, which I'd arrange, groom, and mostly just look at with pre-teen pride. Now they're in a plastic tote in storage. I still have a collection of plush animals - a lot of them rats or cats - which I repeatedly pick up when the real cats knock them off the shelves.
