Yes, the Koran says that. And it says, "Make not Allah, in your oath, a hindrance to your being righteous and observing your duty unto Him and making peace among mankind." (Al-Baqara: 224) And, "(...)speak that which is kindlier." (Al-Isra: 53)
The Bible says, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). As well as, "Love thy neighbour as thyself." (Mark 12:31)
The Koran also says, "But as for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them; boiling fluid will be poured down on their heads, whereby that which is in their bellies, and their skins too, will be melted; and for them are hooked rods of iron. Whenever, in their anguish, they would go forth from thence they are driven back therein and it is said unto them: Taste the doom of burning." (Al-Hajj: 19-22) And, "O ye who believe! Retaliation is prescribed for you in the matter of the murdered; the freeman for the freeman, and the slave for the slave, and the female for the female (...) He who transgresseth after this shall have a painful doom." (Al-Baqara: 178) As well as, "And whomsoever it is Allah's will to guide, He expandeth his bosom unto the Surrender, and whomsoever it is His Will to send astray, He maketh his bosom close and narrow as if he were engaged in sheer ascent. Thus Allah layeth ignominy upon those who believe not," (Al-Anaam: 125) and, "And slay them (disbelievers) wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. (...) And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah." (Al Baqara: 191 & 193) And let's not forget, "Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush." (At-Tawba: 5)
The Bible similarly contains such things as, "And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them." (2 Kings, 2:23-24) And, "For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth." (Genesis 7:4) And, "And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day. And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation. And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him. And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses." (Numbers 15:32-36)
The fucking point here is that both books contain cute, sweet things as well as horrible acts of hatred and pointless cruelty. Stop saying either one or the other is a religion or peace or whatever because neither of them is. Both Christianity and Islam are guilty of inspiring people to do horrible, terrible, massive injustices and used as justification for countless small ones. This is not okay. I don't care if you only pick the nice little parts of your particular flavour of religion--at the end of the day you choose to ignore the flagrant evil in your holy book and trying to insist it's 'peaceful' is the same blind, willful ignorance that the fundamentalists who blow up buildings have.
And I don't honestly care how many people I offend in saying this.
