Some people really hate it when their main characters are "messed with", particularly when they are given new, game-breakingly powerful abilities. I've read some people who think Twilight will turn into a Mary Sue. I'm ambivalent about this, TBH.

Honestly, the fan theories that Twilight was going to become a princess have been flying around since the early part of season 1.

Since, you know, Twilight is the period of time between day and night.  The two most powerful ponies in Equestria were also named for periods of the 24 hour cycle (Celestia and Luna).

Not to mention that Twilight caught the specific interest of Celestia.

There's other evidence, as well. For instance, only Twilight's Element of Harmony took the form of a tiara. She's basically been set up as the most magically gifted unicorn in Equestrian history. She's shown to be prone to transformation (however brief it may have been).

It was pretty much a given it would happen eventually. It was always just my personal feeling that it would be the last story the show dealt with.

My only concern with Twilight becoming a princess is that, if that's been the ultimate goal of her studies, then that would mean she has nothing left to study for.  Her OCD nerdiness is her entire character, so I really hope the only thing that changes about her is her appearance, and she'll still spend all her time reading and being a dork.

Several of the pre-readers, along with myself are hoping for "Here's the powers you're going to get to have... eventually.  Enjoy them for a week or so, try not to destroy the country."

What is one goal if not the starting point of another journey?

For one thing, Twilight will probably have to begin studying new magic.  Not to mention that she might have to learn how to do pegasus things as well.

I wonder, though... is it only unicorns that can become alicorns?  Or can pegasi do this, too?  Hmm.

Wheeee, this fandom is so stone-bonkers. So many people are also so cross about a background pony's removal from the show.
