Confirmation: seduction achieved.

Copy that.

Operation "Get lucky" is a go. I repeat: Operation "Get lucky" is a go.

Phase 2 complete. Phase 3 will commence in two weeks (i.e. when she's free from her work).
Still can't think of a signature a year later.

In the final stages of preparation for a nice trip to see my folks...whom I've not seen since June of last year.  It'll only be a week, but its shaping up to be a pretty fucking good week with promises of hard apple cider and meat, likely bacon.  Plus, getting to hang with my brother and friends again, and maybe meeting my bro's new friends, as well.

[ETA]

On a smaller note, a post I made on the FTB forums about IC2 (and why its becoming un-fun) got half a dozen likes in only a few hours, and was quoted favourably almost as many times.  I'm a happy beaver.

After doing well my first semester, I have a chance of getting an internship with the 6th circuit court of appeals. I've been told by the person who would set everything up that I have a "decent shot of getting [this]." The same person told me if I wanted a district court gig, my shots were a "practical guarantee."

I had to write a resume for class as part of my ePortfolio, and I feel super confident in my ability to land a good job now. I'm rather excited that this is my last semester in college, and my professor even told me to start job hunting.

By the way, today I finally managed to find the source of an annoying rattling sound.

I made another ~$90 today and got lunch at Longhorn Steakhouse, where my server was essentially a clone of Jennifer Lawrence.

This is more so "Something good that happened on the internet today" than "Something nice that happened to me today":

Woot woot! Wanna be lawyer fist-bump.

Slightly OT, what are the internship/career prospects for lawyers in America?

Slightly OT, what are the internship/career prospects for lawyers in America?

Generally speaking, I think most of my class went to law school to learn how to be better criminals. So, after graduation, I see the top of our class being  wealthy drug lords and the bottom of our class in prison for DUI.

Joking aside, it's generally portrayed as negative. A few years ago the wages for entry level work ballooned, the media made a big hype about how smart of an idea law school was, a lot of people went, saturated the market. Combine this saturation with the recent recession and the legal market got hit hard. But I think it's improving for three reasons: (1) the baby boom lawyers are about to retire, freeing up jobs, (2) the number of applicants to law school continues to drop (since 2010), and (3) with the recovering economy, it is easier to find work (out-of-college) today than 5 years ago.

Also, a lot of these focus on the law school class in the aggregate. As a rule of thumb, the people near the top of their classes always do better job hunting than those at the bottom. A lot better. And I'm near the top of my class, so I have that going for me.

As far as internship/career prospects, internships are mostly unpaid. Every now and then a big firm posts work with a decent stipend ($5000-$10,000 for 7-10 weeks of work) but most jobs are unpaid. As far as career prospects, and internship too, it's diverse. There are a lot of fields people can look at including criminal prosecutions for war criminal tribunals (I have a friend doing this), business and administrative law, work with contracts and breaches, and one of my friends went to a decent law school, stayed near the top of her class, and now works prosecuting sex offenders in a small town (go figure). I guess I don't know much specifics because I've never held a legal gig, but work is definitely diverse (and unpaid without a J.D.)

Combine looking at health law as a field, I would be surprised if I couldn't get a fall back job working at a trans-advocacy center with all the shit we put up with health care wise.

The puppies I've been helping take care of all left today to go to the folks who adopted them. Sad, but they'll all be in happy homes. And I won't miss their barking or whining.

To celebrate, my landlady bought us a pizza and one of those kickass chocolate chip cookie pies. Fuck yeah.

Got to my family's place safe and sound a few hours ago and spent most of the time catching up, lol.  Now, apparently, my bro's friends are coming along and we're gonna have a good, old-fashioned party which I am dubbing Meatstravaganza, because Mum went bug-fuck crazy and bought damn near every kind of meat you can think of for a cookout of epic proportions.  They've got a new dog, Ruger, who was an abandonee that they rescued.  He's...very energetic, lol.

Kelly and I went to Otronicon, an annual video game and technology convention held at the Orlando Science Center. Some highlights:

* Did so well at a Bell R22 helicopter simulator that they had to stop me from completing the entire course. The guy running the booth said I made even him look bad.

* Tried out Google Glass for myself. It's surprisingly intuitive and easy to use. What I mainly want to see is going from a single tiny screen over one eye to a larger one that can act as a true sci-fi HUD. Right now it's kinda hard to see small text or pictures unless you've got the Glass connected to a screen, which defeats most of the purpose of wearing it.

* Played with the VirtuSphere for the second time. They added a ring around the user to hold onto, which solves the old problem of faceplanting when you walked too fast. But it's still very tiring (you need to put some force into moving the sphere, which is not unlike going up stairs in effort) and it's very hard to turn while moving. I could really only see it being used for some kind of simulator-based exercising, like running a course.

* Saw my sister get her face made into a 3D image. It only took about 10 minutes from the time she was photographed, and they're working on making it instantaneous.

* Saw a large number of 3D printers, some of which were printing right in front of us. Examples of 3D printed items included complex sets of gears and working plastic monkey wrenches and pliers.

* Saw my sister complete a soldering workshop, which ended in her making a robot pin with blinking LED eyes. We're now planning on buying a soldering kit.

* Bought a copy of Weird Florida. I'm making a road trip out of it, and also using it as inspiration for tabletop RPGs and other stories. We seriously had a wannabe Frankenstein in Key West back in the 30s, Count Carl Von Cosen. Complete with a makeshift laboratory in an old aircraft fuselage behind a Marine hospital, and dynamiting the family crypt of his "subject" before fleeing town.

I cleaned out my car substantially.

... yes, I realize this doesn't sound like much of an accomplishment, but considering how bad I can be about cleaning up sometimes, this is progress for me.  I'm no hoarder, I'm just LAZY AS HELL for some things.
