Pope Quits: Following God too much hard work...
« on: February 11, 2013, 06:23:16 am »
... or something like that.

First Pope to resign in 700 years or more, and even that one was probably under threat of violent removal otherwise.

He survived Nazi scandals, condoning paedophilia and the rest of the multi-millennial systematic church corruption and formation of policy to maximise power, but can't be assed following the path that was ordained for him...

Maybe this is why Jesus hasn't shown up again yet. Too much hard work...

My father-in-law (who is Catholic) joking asked who the Pope is supposed to turn in his resignation to.

I didn't even know the Pope could resign. Will he get to vote on his successor? Will he still be a cardinal somewhere?

If they don't pick a Brazilian or Fillipino, Catholicism is officially a joke.

The party's name is the Democratic Party. It has been since 1830. Please spell correctly.

"The party must go wholly one way or wholly the other. It cannot face in both directions at the same time."

Let me guess, they are going to replace him with someone even worse?

My first reaction to this story was "They can do that?"
Still can't think of a signature a year later.

Think the last time a Pope resigned was 700 years ago.

There is a section in the rulebook for it:

Well yes, a Papal decree making it legal for a Pope to resign kind of fits, when those in power want you out...

Kind of weird that a Papal decree of God's will's OK for that kind of thing, but not for electing a successor --- kind of suggests an enormous lack of faith in God's ability to appoint the correct person for the job [Edit: or a tremendous lack of belief in the Pope being God's divine messenger on Earth], and one of those eminently faithless will become his next emissary on Earth. That's about as close to irony as cynicism can come. Irony tends to be a lot funnier...

Oh, and Fred, the favourites are a Ghanaian, a French Canadian and a Nigerian. It kind of suggests that Scola's going to get it... [Edit2: The Archbishop of Milan]

A black pope. That would be quite a thing.

Well, it would make RSTDT busy for sure.
That said, I've stopped trying to anticipate what people around here want a while ago, I've found it makes things smoother.
For I was an hungred, and ye told me to pull myself up by my bootstraps: I was thirsty, and ye demanded payment for the privilege of thine urine: I was a stranger, and ye deported me: naked, and ye arrested me for indecency.

Wonder if the college of Cardinals can top ol' Pope Nosferatu I? Is it possible? (sigh) Yeah, probably is somebody worse in their ranks....

Good riddance, and I still hope they arrest him over that trivial issue of covering up the systemic rape of children worldwide.

I think leaving the scene before the shit hits the fan is part of the reason he is resigning. Yeah, he IS very old and frail, so all the drama, sturm und colonkramps would be a bit much for him.

added: I wish we could use your Benedict/Palpatine pic as the FSTDT forum banner graphic for the Feb 28th as a celebration flag  ;D
