I've only gotten one ending so far, but I didn't have an issue with it. And the endings do make sense when you think about all the information that's been given to us about the history of the game universe.

Undoubtedly, Simsim. But they are all bitter depressing endings. And in a series of games that were all so dark and foreboding, where the only thing that kept the protagonist going was his/her hope for survival and peace. Where he/she manages to (for most people)

unite all races, including the synthetic geth. Where we already have a proof that the created (geth, EDI) do NOT have to inevitably kill the creator (quarian, human), the ultimate certainly of the catalyst falls flat and the choices presented are deeply depressing and a bit mind boggling. This was not a cheery game where the tragic ending would serve to balance. It was a dark moody game where a depressing ending only makes things worse.

I understand it's a depressing ending and that some things may seem odd about it, but I think that's what makes it much of a realistic ending.

In my play through the Geth did destroy the Quarians. I guess that can be avoided?

The Catalyst could be right or wrong about organics and synthetics inevitably fighting. But given that this cycle has gone on as long as the galaxy presumably, I do wonder at the chances of the Catalyst being wrong. Plus who knows what would have happened if the cycle didn't sort of continue. Synthetics and organics might have fought again.

Maybe the ending isn't as dark and depressing as it seems. I wonder if Sheppard controlling the technology might not break the cycle(I haven't seen that ending yet, so I don't know how different it is than the destruction ending). There's also the fact that the Catalyst says it'll have to make a new solution since Sheppard got as far as he did.

I united the Geth and Quarians. I am not sure what exactly you need to do. I saved the admiral who was against war, and was paragon to Legion and the Quarians at all times with the exception of renegading the admiral who attacked the dreadnaught while we were on it. I also destroyed the server. In ME2 I had rewritten the heretics. In the end I allowed Legion to upload the Reaper upgrades and then Rallied the fleet (charm) to not attack.

Rationally I know that the ending is realistic. But emotionally I hate it with passion and want another one.

I did all of those but one, so that must have made the difference.

I totally understand why people would dislike the ending. I was just trying to better explain why I do like it.

I have no problem with Shepard dying to end the series.  As I've said that would be a fitting end taking out the reapers.  I guess the thing the confuses me the most is the Catalyst trying to keep synthetics and organics from attacking each other, by attacking organics with the mostly synthetic reapers.



ALSO, the endings in ME2 and ME1 weren't exactly the same.  The end of the game conversations had drastically different dialogue depending on your choices at the end of the game.  In ME3 the exact exact same cutscene happens to the end the game.

Yes the dialogue is different. The cutscene in ME2 is exactly the same though - the only change is the color (deja vu). There is a lot of differences in the dialogues depending on decisions in the ending sequence of ME3 as well - for example the dialogue with TIM. So I still claim that, in that sense, the ending in ME3 is analogously restricted as the ME2 one.

In order to save both Geth and Quarians, here's what you need to do...in ME2.


Recruit Legion and Tali
Do their loyalty quests.
For Tali's quest, make sure you either charm/intimidate the Admirals into acquitting her, or allow Veetor and Kal'Reeger speak on her behalf (Paragon Shep should have kept both alive)

For Legion's loyalty quest, you can either rewrite or destroy the Heretics.  If you choose to destroy the heretics, it's easier to get the 'golden ending' but you get less allies.  Playing a pure Paragon Shep will net you the best ending anyways, I think.

When Tali and Legion have their catfight, make sure to charm/intimidate them to settling down right away.  Note: If you can't do it, due to lack of points, you're screwed, because settling their differences one on one doesn't count. Paragon Shep has the easiest time doing it.

Lastly, make sure both survive Suicide mission.  Easy to do.

In Mass Effect 3, certain things MUST be done, (especially as a Paragon shep)  Rescue Admiral Koris Vas Quib Quib (May need charm/intimidate points to do so), and do all the other quests on Rannoch before assaulting the Geth base.  You may also have to take Admiral Raan's  side in an argument with Admiral Gerrel, (the War hawk Admiral) not quite sure on that one.

Do the geth base, destroy the reaper, and let Legion upload the upgrade...you should get a charm/intimidate ability telling the Quarians to settle down.  If you do, tada! you got the Golden ending....get ready to blow through a box of tissues.

LOL @ people who are talking about how Bioware doesn't give away free things. Uh... Cerberus Network ring a bell? A lot of stuff on there was free.

Also, Jesus fucking Christ. I hate rumors with a fiery passion. God damn the ending wasn't that terrible. I've seen a lot worse. If anything, there should be clarification as to the plot.

Holy shit, guys. The destroy choice+high enough war assets=Shepard gasps for air at the epilogue! I don't think Shep's story is done. Not by a LONG shot!
