On the subject of skin tone and sensitivity to the sun:
Once upon a time, when I was still a baby, my mother had me on her lap outside and one of the neighbors came up to her and said "Aww, I think you need to let him back inside" and my mother responded "But I haven't been out for that long" and the neighbor, unconvinced said "Don't you see your baby is getting burnt?"
Of course, the explanation to my skin tone is that I'm part Cherokee (i.e. I am orange), and I can sit out in the sun for a long period of time before I start getting burnt.
