Kaamos has arrived to Finland.

Basically it means that the days in north are pretty short now. In our northermost town the sun came up 11:14 and went down 12:42. That's less than one and half hours of daylight during the day.

I haven't been that much up north so the only times I've actually experienced kaamos were back in the army. It was pretty strange feeling when you are in the dark for most of the day.

Yeah, I've heard some folks gone up to Alaska say it gets pretty weird, but you slowly get used to it.  "View it like... an extreme Daylight Savings Time".

I can't imagine having so little daylight. I hate leaving work at 5 pm and having it already be dark outside, let alone any earlier than that.

Yep.  Areas in the far north tend to be highest in depression.  Sunlight helps improve the mood.  Chemicals in the brain and how shiny it is and all that. 

I prefer the dark too, though, but I know I need to at least open a window now and then.

Or, at least, this time of year (Getting cold for us Northern Hemisphere folks, yay.), unshroud a window.

You can resize using tinypic. No software needed. Also there's resizeme I think.
