And I could do porn.

...What? Someone had to suggest it.

That gives me an idea, actually. Maybe an Angry Video Game Nerd style review show of crappy porn videos could be a thing. I know I'd watch it.

Not that it would work for the new site on account of the "no porn" rule, but it would be funny nevertheless.

Well I was joking originally, but maybe if we pick some porn with plot and then discuss the plot and actual acting? You know just sticking to the SFW parts?

Although I think even that would lose it's novelty pretty soon.

I remember Viz made this really funny Victorian edition of Razzle once.  It was basically just a Victorian version of a modern day porno mag, with photos of maids showing their ankles, and adverts for steam powered vibrators.

if you wanted to do something like that, you wouldn't need to have any graphic material, and you could always use different time periods and settings to change it up a bit.

I'm not against this idea at all, but I am skeptical. I mean, with all due respect, the type of subjects we put on podcasts & youtubes & blogs will define the type of board we are and the type of newbies we get. Personally, I would like things to focus more on skepticism, (legit) social justice issues, and rational discussions as opposed* paganism and My Little Pony. I know some disagree.

Therefore, before anything starts up, or is put up on these youtubes or blogs, I think at the very least it should have Sigma's approval since it both affects his board and is representative of it.

I kind of assumed that goes without saying. After all, you can't run something like this by just having anyone and everyone throw whatever content they feel like onto the site, that's just silly. Planning and quality control of some sort definitely needs to be a thing, for reasons you already mentioned.

Though in all honesty, we're probably getting ahead of ourselves. As Sigma said, all we're doing now is getting an idea of what people are able and willing to do. It'll probably be a while before we're ready to decide on specific content.

Right.  I didn't think I would be able to just post whatever.

For one thing, we've apparently got people volunteering to be proofreaders, so I should probably take advantage of that.

Though to be honest I'm not sure I'm going to do this anyways.   If we suddenly lack content, maybe, but I'm not exactly sure what a pagan gaymer can provide other than his opinions as a pagan gaymer.

I'm fine with FQA being a skeptic site as long as it doesn't become a skepdick site.

I'm up for some articles.

So no opinions on the possible use of Tumblr?

And yeah, quality control is definitely a must, not just basic proofreading (although that's really important if we want to be taken seriously) but also guidelines on what sort of articles we are interested in in the first place so we don't end up with a schizophrenic mishmash of stuff.
From international relations to religious rivalries, from marriage to athlete's foot, whatever the problem a fundy's first solution is usually violence.

If we do have a blog, then Tumblr would probably be the best place for it, considering the large user base.

I can write some articles.  I've been published in several Mississippi papers, and being a somewhat left-leaning, centerist, that's saying something.  I even have a body of work that could be published, right-off-the-bat, if you need some stuff for either filler or a premier.

Ordinarily, I'd offer to proofread, but I'm so burnt out right now I don't know if I'm up to it. Maybe if you're still looking for someone to do that by the time I'm doing better I'll volunteer, if I'm still around.

I'd shy away from Tumblr. I don't much care for the site demographics or layout. Why not Wordpress?

I was thinking of using Tumblr as a mirror to get more attention, rather then the main blog, because I don't really like the layout particularly either.

Tumblr's better for sharing content than generating it, particularly when it comes to text posts. Wordpress or something similar would definitely be preferable for the main blog.

Although, Tumblr could be useful for sharing any images we generate. Perhaps it could be used a sideblog kinda deal? And using it as a mirror, as per Anti-nonsense's suggestion, for excerpts/links to text posts isn't a bad idea, either.

For the blog, perhaps we could have some kind of "try-out", where anyone who wishes to contribute could submit an article or two (or images/whatever they're planning on contributing) to Sigma or various forum members to read over and assess, in order to assure that we'll be producing high-quality content?

Whatever we do, Vene's bigass biology thread should go on there somewhere.

I doubt it'll happen, but I'd be pretty excited if Vene decided to return to write biology-related articles. I learned a ton from him while he was still a member here.

Unfortunately, past drama ensures that it's a pipe dream.

Edit: Also, to expand on my earlier offer to contribute, I'd probably be best suited to commenting on social and political issues, debunking pseudo-science, astronomy-related stuff, and, if it has any place on the site, writing and literature -- if you're willing to have me, of course. I'd also be open to running some kind of weekly feature, as I have a few ideas for that.

I wish I could do something to help.  Unfortunately, all I can do is continue to visit the forum and give traffic to whatever our new thing becomes.
