In the Virginia Republican Committee newsletter, there is nothing to imply that protecting Americans from the “prey of the rich on the poor” is the reason for calling for armed rebellion. According to the newsletter, President Obama, is a “political socialist ideologue unlike anything world history has ever witnessed or recognized,” and that the only option is “armed revolution should we fail with the power of the vote in November:” If one is confused as to what Republicans consider is a “political socialist ideologue,” the newsletter claims President Obama “shuns biblical praise, handicaps economic ability, disrespects the honor of earned military might,” and that under Obama, “the government is out of control, and this opportunity, must not be forsaken for we shall not have any coarse (sic) but armed revolution.”

Here we go again. /facepalm

But it's not like they advocate violence against political enemies, just violent revolution should those enemies win.
-
And this is why I throw out newspapers and don't watch the news.
Ironbite-fucking hell Virginia GOP...fucking hell.
-
There you have it, one of the two main parties just committed treason. If I recall correctly, that's a death penalty offence. Interesting...
-

He has done anything anti-religious, he believes in regulations for health and safety (which the GOP wants to remove) which keep long-term costs down, and he took down Bin Laden with zero American losses and brought our troops home. Yeah, he's really anti-American.

"Treason is a matter of dates."
Sad, but true. And if anyone had the balls to actually do anything about this incident, they'd just hide behind the First Amendment. "We didn't know he was going to try and shoot the President! It was just political hyperbole!"
-
Oh for fuck's sake take them up on it. I hate people who make empty threats and don't follow up on it. 99.9% of the people making these fucking lists probably won't even use their gun against the burglar in their house, and most of these idiots won't join the army to protect against any actual instances of treason or attack against American soil. I say, call these fuckers out, give them a place to march with their guns and their empty threats, clear everyone else out of the square, and televise the whole fucking spectacle to let the whole country see what unhinged, idiotic lunatics they really have become.
And yes there's always the tiny percentage that will shoot shit up, the Wade Michael Pages of the world. But sadly we can't identify all spree killers BEFORE they go on a rampage (we can for some, but not all), we can only deflate the sentiment and hope the crazies go die with them.
-
Oh, adopted home state. I'm disappointed in you. First the transvaginal ultrasound bill and now this.
-
disrespects the honor of earned military might
"Might makes right"? And what has Obama done to disrespect that "honor"? Continue the fight in the Middle East? Let gay people serve openly?

Let gay people serve openly?
That and let non christians serve openly. Pagans and such.
Remember the US is Jesus's army, no fags or pagans allowed. It's right on the club house door, don't know how people miss it.
-
The bushes need a good trimming.
Ironbite-better hire an illegal then deport him after the job is done.
-
So... Isn't this like the second or third Rebuplican group making threats of starting an armed revolution? And didn't some governor suggest that his state might secede from USA?
This doesn't make them look very patriotic.
-
But there's a black man in the White House so it's totally ok and not Treasonous at all!
Oh and reason why we can't prosecute them is because this is all words and everyone has the right to say what they want.
Ironbite-until the bullets start flying that is.

Still bitter after the Civil War I see.

HA. Yeah, sure. Republicans will start a rebellion as soon as Rush Limbaugh moves to Canada like he said he would.
i.e. never.

Last I heard, he was threatening to move to Costa Rica, not Canada.

Is there no way of calling the bluff by removing citizenship from those who advocate armed rebellion against the country, and sending them to Guantanamo, or to Iran?

As horrible as their statements are, I would never wish torture in Guantanamo on another human being.

You are much kinder than I, Wykked. I'm starting to lose my patience with these fools.
-
Sure, the Republicans claim they support the voice of the people...
...until the voice of the people disagrees with them.

But there's a black man Democrat in the White House so it's totally ok and not Treasonous at all!
Fixed.

You mean Mel Brooks, right? Mel Blanc was the voice artist for the Warner Bros cartoons.

18 USC § 2385 - Advocating overthrow of Government (http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/2385)
I honestly hope that if Obama does get reelected, he prosecutes these fuckers under this statute. Not because they pose any real threat, but because I'm so goddamned tired of hearing these Freeper types shoot their mouths off like this.
AH'M GUNNA GO GIT MAH GUN AND SHOW THAT FUCKIN MUSLIM SOCIALIST NIGGER HURR DURR DERP.
I swear to god, these assholes are the Tumblr SJWs of the Right (or are the SJWs the Freepers of the Left?). Either way, at least an indictment might finally shut them up, even if the case gets dropped later on.

It'd probably just fuel their persecution complex.
-
Though remember, kids, it isn't terrorism as long as Christian conservatives do it.
-
If I am not mistaken, the political right has justified its general condemnation of the Muslim faith by reasoning that, while they may not themselves partake in extremist acts, they share in the guilt by not condemning and opposing those extremist acts.
By their own logic, is not every Republican in the nation who has not openly condemned and opposed the calls for "second amendment remedies" and armed revolution as guilty as those who have by simple nature of their silence?

You got that right, it will only fuel their persecution complex. And we don't need that, they already have one the size of Texas.

Of course not. They're Christian. That makes them immune to logic of any form. It also grants a +2 Hypocrisy bonus.
-
Woops! Yes, Mel Brooks.
-
You know, the sad thing about all this is that there really are legitimate reasons to criticize the Obama administration. Unfortunately, shit like this drowns out intelligent, fact-based criticism just as a leaking power line interferes with a radio signal.
Which means that the legitimate grievances of liberals, conservatives, and moderates alike go largely unheard, because the sensationalist corporate media, and much of the so-called "alternative" media, focuses on the crazies.
We need to remember that this sort of rhetoric and behavior hurts EVERYONE, by debasing political discourse as a whole. Which is exactly why I think this sort of threat deserves to be prosecuted. Discouraging and removing crap like this from the public discourse would actually be a net benefit for free speech.
Go ahead, tell me how wrong I am.
-
Instead of the silent majority, we have very vocal minorities.
-
Go ahead, tell me how wrong I am.
No. Because you're not. It's true, the media loves to focus on the lunatics and give them publicity, and that turns journalism into a spectator sport. But all too often people take that to mean that we shouldn't callout people who say horrible, biased, or rock-stupid things. I agree, Fpqxz, that these people should be held accountable for what they said. It's not okay, and it's not a freedom of speech issue. It's treason and threat of armed violence, and there is no place for it in politics.

And that's a problem...why, exactly? If they commit a crime, they should be punished. Treason is a crime, and anyone who commits it should be punished in fitting with the letter of the law.
-
And if increasing their persecution complex leads to more of these people trying to rebel, then those can be dealt with, and if this is a cycle, then that means eventually, we can purge our country of these hideous lunatics.
-
Eeeexactly. We can do like Futurama and put them in a hotel on the sun.

Because appeasement has always worked so well in the past, hasn't it?
-
Indeed. Appeasing lunatics did not work with the Nazis, it will not work now.
Both aim for the same sort of government.
Lets not allow these fascists to set up their dream state.
-
Anyone who would use an expression like "the honor of earned military might" is most likely a horrible human being.
-
The capacity for violence, while sometimes a necessary trait and occasionally required by a society for its protection, is never something to be admired or accorded "honor." We honor our military because of the sacrifices they are willing to make for our nation, not because they are "mighty." The USA essentially has the "earned military might" that it has due to massively overspending every other nation on the planet. We are the New York Yankees of military force.

It is not honorable to be stronger and crush ones' foes.
It is honorable to use that strength to defend ones' allies.
It is not honorable to be cruel or merciless to ones' enemies.
It is honorable to show mercy to the defeated.
It is not honorable to step over the corpses of your own to achieve your goals.
It is honorable to give respect to those that died, even for a fruitless cause.
Honor is about having strength and not abusing it. Honor is about having strength and using it for a good cause. Honor is about honoring the life that was lost, rather than the loss of life.

Or, to quote from a fanfic I'm rather fond of: "The weak shouldn't fight. The strong should fight FOR them!"

I'd love to see this:
IN THIS CORNER....A bunch of gun-toting inbred hicks.
AND....
IN THIS CORNER....The entire U.S. MILITARY! Army! Navy! Air Force! Marines! The National Guard! Multitudes of brave men & women armed to the teeth with some of the most expensive, destructive, high-tech, advanced firepower on the market today!
I'd get the popcorn but the curb-stomp battle would be over before the Reddenbacher's done popping!
Can you believe the hubris of these RINO-hick's? They should be committed in a psychiatric ward!

That, too. They claim to be Republican but they're Theofascist Teabaggers, hence my use of the term "RINO".

I'm tempted to make a joke involving metal boxes.
