None of us could believe it - Richard Dawkins, well known for his lack of belief and open critizism of religion in general and Christianity in particular, has now declared HE DOES BELIEVE - In "Something" - A God or Higher Power.

'I can't be sure God DOES NOT exist': World's most notorious atheist Richard Dawkins admits he is in fact agnostic . . .

As we eventually expand outwards from our little backwater planet on the periphery of the Orion spiral arm, it is not inconceivable that we might encounter an entity which, although not a god, looks like a god, acts like a god, feels like a god, smells like a god, sounds like a god, tastes like a god - but doesn't have a long beard and spend all day sat on a cloud being praised by bands of angelic beings.

If you see what I mean.

But but but...

Sitting on a cloud being praised by bands of angelic beings is what god is supposed to do. Well that and killing kittens when I masturbate. And smiting USA if gay weddings are legalised.

But going back to the original subject. If Dawkins is now uncertain about even the lack of a god then isn't that a complete opposite believing in something?

I thought that with the way he capers and finger-points at religion as the source of all problems, that he was an anti-theist.  Learn something new every day.

Who the fudge wrote this article?

Religious people looking to prove a point on how they knew the truth all along.  This announcement (though not the same article) was posted on Christian Forums as well, by someone who wanted to prove their agenda.  Most of the responders pointed out how dumb the OP was and that Dawkins has admitted that he was agnostic on previous occasions.  The article itself uses a misleading title, and even announces at the end of the article that atheists are starting to believe, even though that's not what the article said at all.

Dawkins has always said "There almost certainly is no god". That's pretty much the same thing as the quote in that article.

Absence of faith, not faith in absence. Is that really so difficult to understand?

I love how they ignore the next several paragraphs in which he explains that while it's technically possible for a deity to exist, it's about as likely as a china teapot existing in orbit somewhere between (I think) Mars and the Asteroid Belt (his words).

Oh, that's nothing. Sid Barnum, over on the next block, now believes it's OK to eat oysters in months without an "r."

As we've said many times in these forums, there's no way to prove a negative such as something not existing.  There's always the chance that one can exist.  Does that mean I think there is one?  Absolutely not.  I think the idea is ridiculous and beyond improbable.  But it is within the realm of possibilities that it could be shown one (or more) exists.

But I won't hold my breath waiting for said proof.

How is this even news? He said as much in The God Delusion.

Oh. Right. These religious fucks never read that.

Plus, there is the whole thing going on again like Dawkins’s opinion really has any effect on the status of atheism or agnosticism in general.

In that quote in question, he rated himself "a 6.9". Which, if you read the relevant section of The God Delusion, a 7 means "I know for a fact that no gods exist".

In other words, he is rather thoroughly convinced that no gods exist, and lives his life as if no gods exist, and only extremely compelling evidence would convince him otherwise. As a man of reason, he acknowledges that a god is possible, but unfathomably unlikely.
