Title: Cool websites
Post by: Smilodon on January 14, 2012, 05:16:07 pm
What websites do you visit that you think are cool or interesting?

I'd say Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music (http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/) is pretty neat.

www.aywas.com (http://www.aywas.com) is fairly cool. It's sort of like pokemon except they add new pets every week or so and they have an on-site drinking game, the reward being a free custom.

Aywas isn't just "fairly cool," it's crack in digital form.

Not so much a cool website as a webpage (NSFW): http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Yahoo!_Answers

I found out about this a couple years ago. It's a great guide. It's a bit out-of-date, though. By about 5 years.

I now present The Big List of Porn. (http://www.tblop.com/) The site itself is SFW, but the links on it are most definitely not.

The ornaga has no idea what you're talking about.

Wasn't Aywas created by former Neopets staff? O.o

I had never heard that. I've heard us called the "anti-neopets" though. It's aimed at the 16+ crowd (last June we had to find pink leaves for Asher's birthday. The leaves were traded in for alcohol. The alcohol was fed to your pet. Each drink was worth a different amount of points. At the end of the leaf hunt/drinking binge the points were tallied, the winners got free customs, and the rest of us got a seasonal shop where we could trade our points in for items and special pets. They do stuff like that every other month.) The site is heavily user created.  Pet species, and subsequent coloration, are designed by the users. Some of our special events are user created.  And a lot of our events (Scavenger hunt in July, the easter egg field, and the upcoming love letters game) require you to co-operate with other users so it's a very close knit community.

Though the ornaga up there is a custom design I just bought off another user (I'm horrible at editing lines and coloring so all my customs were commissioned or bred babies).

Oh God, and my new favorite part of the site is the mutants. If you breed two pets with a radioactive breeding device you have an 80% chance of ending up with something like this: (http://images.aywas.com/pets/offsprings/c8/1e/2442abc3cdbc11e42a88853485e24cf5e6bac81e.png)

Edit: I do have one complaint. They had a feature called Explore that is currently being phased out for something called Adventure. Adventure is a nice feature but none of your pet's attributes carried over. So my level 2,117 explore pet is only pushing level 13 in adventure.

It's likely I'm confusing it for a different site. My memory's not what it used to be. I had a look around thanks to L a while back. It looks neat but way too complicated for me to want to deal with.

Here are my fun sites:

Genderfork. (http://genderfork.com/) Cool photos, cool quotes, great resource for anyone curious about queer related things.
Urban-Collector (http://www.urban-collector.com/) Great collectible toys. I just like to browse, myself though
Archaology Magazine (http://www.archaeology.org/)I am an Anthropology and Archaeology nerd so I like to look over here since I had to cancel my subscription. Lot more content on the website anyways.
Badass of the Week. (http://www.badassoftheweek.com/index.html) It's where I originally learned about my love Lyudmilla Pavlichenko (http://www.badassoftheweek.com/pavlichenko.html). So props to the owner.
Geeks Are Sexy (http://www.geeksaresexy.net/) While being spot on with the phrase, they have some great content that keeps me up to date on things I find great to fuel my geekyness.

Yeah, it can definitely be overwhelming if you don't sign up for a newbie helper when you join. As of yesterday's new design release there were 1,201 catchable pets in 11 different regions. Not to mention all the other pets you obtain through special events/shops/regions that are only open for limited times/eggs.

Basic rule of thumb, if you ever found yourself wanting to hurl the gameboy while playing pokemon then Aywas might not be for you.

And this made me giggle.

Thank you for the new toys, Shane.

This website, contrary to its name, is a pro-evolutionary theory site.

http://www.creationtheory.org/

One page illustrates how probability works in evolution with simulated dice rolls (http://www.creationtheory.org/Probability/Page03.xhtml).
