Grabbed Gothic 3 when it was on sale a while back on Steam for two bucks. I figured, why not replay the first two before I get into the third? I'm doing exactly that right now, and I've made a decent start on the original.

I have a feeling I'm in for a wonderful month or so.

Today has been a good day.

He did have proper shielding. The problem was that since the war started too soon he didn't have enough time to finish certain things. (he actually explains it if you do missions for him.)


If I remember correctly, the main problem was that he didn't get the platinum chip before the war began and that was the cause of all the failures in his plan. The chip contained the state-of-the-art AI programs for his robots and Anti-air in his casino, if he had gotten the chip and used it to upgrade his systems:

-The robots near the damn would have been active AND with the armed upgraded weapons and AI.
-His anti-air defense would have been working better (with the upgrades from the chip) and Vegas would not have been hit by any nukes.
-If Vegas hadn't been hit Mr. House would not have been in coma for a century or so and he would have started rebuilding the area much sooner. In fact, he would have had a thriving society before any other post-apocalyptic group got back on their feet.

You can complain that the Chip is just a regular Macguffin but that bit in the story has actually been explained quite well and it explains a) Why House doesn't rule the world. b) How he is able to be a potential threat to NCR and the Legion despite not being one currently. Honestly, that latter is important. All the main powers have some weakness that prevents them from defeating the others unless someone (the player) tips the balance in the region and the Chip offers House a plausible method of getting stronger AND a plausible reason for him lacking that strength before player intervention.

I've finally found a MOBA that isn't full of dick fucks, and I'm actually enjoying my time in the game rather than being yelled at for being inexperienced by a bunch of assholes who can't stand new players.

My Courier was in no way a man who did what I think I'd consider right, but he was fair in his dealings and repaid his debts, I'll give him that.

-I focused on Energy Weaponry, and Melee weaponry after losing some of my progress. There's nothing like sniping some Legionfags with your Gauss Rifle, then blocking them in their preferred form of combat.


-I mostly worked for House with a bit of dabbling with the NCR on the side. Moderate Law, baby. My despite for the Legion's Hard Law led me to a rather high kill count against them, including the slavemaster himself. House was my patron. You gotta repay your patrons. I used Boone to kill the entirety of the Brotherhood and a couple NCR guys in my way. Somehow, this didn't make Boone fucking hate me.

-I killed Cassidy for the Van Graffs. Hey, a Energy Weapon's an Energy Weapon.

-Primm used to have the NCR taking care of them, but I doubt they'll be very happy with House. Goodsprings is mostly well off. Camp MC, eh.

-I killed Cassidy for the Van Graffs. Hey, a Energy Weapon's an Energy Weapon.

If you want free energy weapons, all you need is a stealth boy. Use it in the Van Graff's store and suddenly all those weapons and ammo on display are yours for the taking.

How toxic is the community? Cause the like twelve games I've played and so far no one has yelled at me for being a new player.

If you're only doing AI, you're fine.  Move to PvP and well....

Finished Gothic. I'd completely forgotten about a rather huge flaw that is has. By chapter 2, the game runs out of side quests and by chapter 4 at the very latest, any halfway competent player has maxed out his preferred combat skill and all secondary skills. The entire latter half of the game has absolutely nothing to do outside of the main story. Not what you want in an RPG, I'm sure.

Of course, I do remember that Gothic II doesn't completely blow its load by the midpoint, and as I've just installed and modded it to run at a more civilised resolution and frame rate, I hope to have those memories confirmed.

I got Shadow of the Horned rat and Sea dogs from GOG but neither of them appears to work...

Hopefully they'll get them working after an update or few.
