A drop in the quantum pond

Or, rather, a dropleton.

Quote
Physicists in Germany and the United States said on Wednesday they have discovered an exotic new type of particle that they call a quantum droplet, or dropleton.

...

The microscopic quantum droplet does not dawdle. In the physicists' experiments using an ultra-fast laser emitting about 100 million pulses per second, the quantum droplet appeared for only about 25 trillionths of a second.

...

"The effects that give rise to the formation of dropletons also influence the electrons in optoelectronic devices such as laser diodes," physicist Mackillo Kira of the University of Marburg in Germany, one of the researchers, said by email.

Examples of optoelectronic devices include LED lights and semiconductor lasers used in telecommunications and Blu-ray players.

"For example, the dropletons couple particularly strongly to quantum fluctuations of light, which should be extremely useful when designing lasers capable of encoding quantum information," Kira added.

It doesn't concern you, Sister, that kind of absolutist view of the universe? Right and wrong determined solely by a single all-knowing, all powerful being whose judgment cannot be questioned and in whose name the most horrendous acts can be sanctioned without appeal?

Is it weird that now I kinda want to change my surname to "Dropleton"?

SCIENCE!  ;D
There is light and darkness in the world, to be sure.  However, there's no harm to be had in walking in the shade or shadows.

Not that weird.  My cousin wanted to change his name to "Quark".

What's in this for me?
I am an old man, and I've seen many problems, most of which never happened.

Dude... we're not solid, man...  We're like... made of little bitty bits of stuff!  We only look like we're solid!  *Smoke hangs in the air*  What if each and every little peice of us is actually an entire solar system... or universe?  Woah...  *mind blows*.

Not that weird.  My cousin wanted to change his name to "Quark".

I also kind of wanted to change my surname to "Death" after I discovered a few years ago that "Death" is actually a real name, although there are several alternative spellings.  I just want people to have to adress me as Mr Death.

Reminds me of this one guy who's last name was "Doom". He decided to get a PHD at least partly so that people would have to refer to him as Doctor Doom.

Okay, quantum mechanics are nice, but sometimes the names are becoming kinda silly.
That said, I've stopped trying to anticipate what people around here want a while ago, I've found it makes things smoother.
For I was an hungred, and ye told me to pull myself up by my bootstraps: I was thirsty, and ye demanded payment for the privilege of thine urine: I was a stranger, and ye deported me: naked, and ye arrested me for indecency.

If it were up to astronomers, matter would consist of "Minervas" and "Junos".
