...Well, we can't repeal Knighthood, because the Constitution does not allow citizens to be given titles of nobility.

It's nice, but so what? The damage has been done, Goodwin made his money and it's not as if he is being kicked out of British high society.

Hasn't he also been deprived of his bonus as well? Or are they still arguing that.

This is at best a symbolic gesture meant to shame him publicly.  Having said that, being in the public eye so strongly and in such a negative light isn't necessarily fun, I'd imagine.  Then again, I would think that depends on how much you care about other people's perceptions of you.
My friend's blog.  Check it out!

I am trying to figure out what the American equivalent would be and failing. But yeah, whatever it would be certainly wouldn’t happen.

I guess I dunno in America he would have gotten a double bonus
My favorite part about this kind of shenanigan is when a company goes on about how they need to reward their top performers in order to stay competitive. The same “top performers” that just ruined their company and the economy. ::)

The media's been having an absolute field day with this based on the newspaper headlines I saw.

Hey, for whatever reason, BP seemed to take almost all of the PR blame. Sounds like a business success to me.

I actually wouldn't mind if the US did set up it's own system of knighthood. After all, knighthoods are not inheritable. I would start by retroactively knighting all recipients of the Medal of Honor.

What, doing something England does, because it makes sense?

...that doesn't sound very 'merican, or patriotic. :p

And seriously, if we're adopting things from Britain... can we start with the metric system?

Does knighthood even MEAN anything? Like, is there something you get for being a knight?

Anyway. There is no American equivalent. If there was, maybe we would do it. It's the perfect way to look like you give a shit about the problem while doing absolutely nothing about it.
