basically they ended the curret prime season and the last one on major cliffhangers

Makes the 5 month gap painful. And they did that for both seasons of Beast Wars.

And I think I'll spoiler alert this...

I'd be more sympathetic if people here didn't act like they knew what they were saying when they were saying something very much wrong.

Fooooor those who haven't heard, this upcoming episode, 'Games Ponies Play', is actually a sister episode.

It's the companion to 'Just For Sidekicks'.  It's going to show what was going on with the Mane Six in the Empire while Spike was pet-sitting.

Well, issue 3's out, and it's pretty awesome~

But don't take my word for it, take my word for it.

I actually saw today's episode live (missed the cold opening and a few moments because of showing up to my gf's house late/ads).

This is by far my favorite episode this season.  I can't think of a single moment that really fell flat.  Everything hit strong and you can tell the DHX staff had fun writing, animating, and producing this episode.  I'm not sure if this is my favorite of the series, but it's up there with some of my other favorites.

Does that greeting really bother you that much?

It's just really grating. The episode was largely inoffensive. Certainly wasn't my favorite, but I like how it tied into the Spike episode and Raritys voice actor went above and beyond the call of duty on this one.

I think it was a good episode for Rarity. Even though her part was small-ish, her scenes were some of the best of the episode.

I kinda had trouble staying interested in the episode. It wasn't exactly bad, but it just... seemed uninteresting, as a whole.

So I've heard the rumors/seen the "concept art" for the spinoff/movie thin that the Interwebs seems to be talking about - I've mostly chilled on seeing spoilers, btw - and I have to ask...

...am I the only one who's not bothered by the idea?  If you' don't know, I'm talking about.

(click to show/hide)

Seriously.  Why the fuck are people so against this idea?  They see one fucking image of concept art/a brief explanation behind the concept art, and they go apeshit.  I suppose to be fair some people might just be keen to not spread what they see as rumors, but that doesn't seem to be the sentiment among a decent chunk of fan (or vocal fans, at least) including fans on Tumblr.

People tend to see stuff like that as motivated purely to drive toy sales, since it means an entirely new line of toys kids have to collect. And admittedly, in cases like this (especially when Hasbro is involved), it's usually not far off the mark--creativity and production values suffer for the sake of selling more toys. Some companies are so notorious for this, it's created a sort of "rant first, judge later" mentality in fans.

Since I don't really collect tons of toys, I'm willing to wait to see how this pans out to make any judgments (if it's true at all). The idea isn't bad in and of itself, but a lot just depends on how they treat it--as a production worthy of the time and money needed to make it good, or as a glorified toy commercial.

Fair enough, Yae.

Maybe I'm just naive, but the knee-jerk negativity just kinda jars me a bit.  Seriously, they have a good character basis/a very talented team (assuming this is real and done by DHX).  I have a really hard time imagining them dumbing down the shit out of this with what they've already got to work with.

Hasbro in particular just has a long, long history of throwing beloved franchises under the bus in an effort to sell toys. It's kind of easy to see how someone familiar with their practices would be nervous about this. This is on top of the nervousness than any major shift in a franchise is likely to cause in fans.

Considering Hasbro's new patents, and their promise of making a big deal of this new MLP IP in the coming year, I don't really blame hardcore fans for being nervous. I may not really share their nervousness, but I can understand it.
