What to do with the forums?

I voted to move elsewhere, just because putting it back on proboards gives every troll in the world a tool to shut us down if they want to (constant reporting).

The loss of the NSFW section is no big deal, although I will miss the NSFW Nerdiness thread.

May we ask what changes are being made mod-wise with the move?  I assume that Kiero will no longer have any authority, but will there be any other changes?

I'm also totally fine with losing NSFW, as the porn/naughty pics debacle is just stupid and irritating, especially what Distind mentioned about sex life obsession.

Just gonna echo this.  Even if its the same board, it being on a different server's probably going to bring up a host of "what can/can't be put in NSFW now?" crap, which would no doubt bring about more needless drama.  Also, yes, the obsession some users have with others' sex lives, as well as an almost Twitter-like obsession with constantly updating their recent sexual exploits, has gotten to the level that its really become kinda disturbing and plain old sad.

Having a healthy sex life is fine, but gloating about it is just plain annoying.  I know, "I'm one to talk," because I put up a "I got laid" post.  At the very least, I didn't go into excessive detail, as I've seen numerous times, I don't want to know the exact position you used when you got fucked in the backseat of your new Prius.

I'm just happy my mom doesn't frequent this forum (DON'T GET ANY IDEAS), or I'd be up shit creek without a paddle.

I like this forum better than the ProBoards one because of its layout and ease of accessibility. Also, the search function actually works. I think switching it over to a different server is the better option.

As for NSFW, I don't care if it goes.

We'll see how it goes. It's rather late on a Friday and I just sent out the go ahead. I'll leave it up to Krad as to when he does the transfer, and once he does that I'll do the redirect, and we'll see how long it takes to propagate. It could be kinda weird for a while, but we'll see.

Not really, I'm going to talk with the newer mods about expectations and clarify some things. But all of the mods have been quite useful in discussion about various rules changes and interpretations. Most of the mods have been here long enough to be pretty familiar with my largely hands off approach, so it shouldn't be a huge change.

Also, sundayish poke me about making mod standards public knowledge. I need to rework them a bit to include some more detail, but I figure they should be public so people will understand why I sometimes say the things I do.

And the man's running with the plan, in about 2 hours I'll be changing the subdomain over. Between now and then some posts may not get carried over, and wierdness is always possible. Only took a few minutes for the subdomain to take the first time, but changing it could take longer.

Personally I think the NSFW thread gets a bad rap but *shrugs* oh well.

That said, the huge problem I have with ProBoards is that every time I posted on there I felt like I was walking on egg shells hoping not to get their G-Rated Puritan panties in a bunch and it seemed as though the forums were always at the risk of being taken down because some religious nut got his self-righteous nuts in a knot and decided to report us for whatever not-lily-white-thing we might have posted that upset his pwecious ickle mind.

It ran me up the wall having to play by corporate rules.
