Honestly, I'm thinking of calling myself something other than "brony".  While I do enjoy a lot of brony culture, there is so much more of it that makes me cringe.

I especially hate the "patting themselves on the back" part, or the "so many haters are bronies in denial" part, or the "it's scientifically impossible to watch FIM without getting hooked" part.

It's pretentious as fuck, and I dare say bronies can be some of the most obnoxious, proselytizing group of reverse-hipsters I've ever seen.

Yeah, it's getting to the point where I can't find the good without it literally being covered in the bad.

I still love the show, but eh...

We need a new name for the sane ex-bronies who are still a fan of the show.

Kinda my point. Catchy labels make it easier for people to lump each other together. Case in point, the label "brony" makes you feel lumped in with the obsessives, the cloppers, and the other unsavories.

Pick another label and eventually the unsavories will adopt that one instead (especially if it is perceived as being higher status), and you're right back where you started.

Damn.  I see everyone's talking about creating a new label to distinguish themselves from the obnoxious, annoying, or generally "unsavory" parts of the fandom.  Pardon me, but I think using a separate label to distinguish yourself from segments of the fandom you don't like comes off as awfully pretentious and conceited.

I wasn't specifically thinking about you when I mentioned it to you.  I looked at the larger context of the conversation with the widespread agreement of the original idea and just felt like pointing out that I thought it was bullshit.  Hell, it never crossed my mind that you were the one to bring it up, given the direction this thread has taken through the last page.  Seriously, the whole conversation devolved into one giant circle jerk pretty damned quickly.  I stand by what I said about separate labels.

I only PM'd you because you were the first brony to come to mind in the chat room, BTW.  I was reading the thread and though, "Hey, maybe I can discuss this with someone because I disagree!"  Then I thought "Well, who's on chat and a brony?"  You had recently posted, so you came to mind.

I wasn't really thinking "Oh hey!  He started the conversation on new labels!  Let's PM him to piss him off!"
