I'm honestly not sure what "To the right of Romney" means in that context.

I didn't watch the debates this time... I tuned in and then kinda just went... "Eh" and tuned out.

Obama talked about how he went into Pakistan without asking permission, and the fact that Romney said in the 2008 Republican Primaries that he wouldn't go into Pakistan without permission.  The Democrat took the more aggressive, "fuck what foreign countries think, approach."

Tweets from Bill Maher....

Mitt's entire debate strategy: What he just said, but from a white guy

To Obama's point, I'm thinking our F-15s could defeat a statistically larger number of Red Barons

Yes yes yes! Hit em with "I wldn't move heaven and earth to get bin Laden" and "I'd ask Pakistan's permission" - Mitt, you were just WRONG!

To clarify, Mitt is for moving heaven and earth, but only in regards to mining

OK Mitt, one more try: we have fewer catapults and barrels of boiling oil than we had in the crusades.

OK, one last try: We have fewer Andrews Sisters and Ritz Brothers than we did in 1944. So glad we're done with THAT!

Ah, that.

I'm not sure how I feel about that, but I'm not sure that quantifies as any direction, left or right.  It just... is.

Maybe not, but it's a basic hawk and dove thing.  Asking for permission to come into a country is ever so slightly more dovish than not going.  I find it interesting when candidates or parties end up reversing the expectation of where they should be.  On that issue, Obama took the more hawkish, militaristic stance.  Thus--interesting.

Right-wing pundits are already jumping on the "horses and bayonets" comment, claiming that the Marines still use bayonets.

Jesus Christ, I can't believe we let these idiots vote.

I would actually like to see more guns with bayonets because gunblades are awesome.

So since Jill Stein and Rocky Anderson weren't allowed to attend the debates, they held their own instead. (They're not really debating each other as much as they're debating the mainstream candidates.)

And the US Army dropped bayonet training back in 2010.

Aye...if you're goin close-quarters, it seems far more prudent to just pull a knife and stab a fucker, instead of taking the time to affix it to your rifle.  Much more responsive, that way.

IIRC the bayonet is still used in Australia for training. Jim Dunnigan has a lot of respect for the bayonet, supposedly it is damned good at opening cans and cutting food.

But at that point, it's just a knife. It's not so useful for those things while strapped to the front of a gun. And our troops do get issued combat knives. Ones so sharp and durable, they're illegal for civilians to own.

Glenn Greenwald here to remind you that Obama and Romney's foreign policies are pretty much exactly the same.
