Title: Forum Issues
Post by: Keiro Dreamwalker on January 04, 2012, 03:43:11 am
Post them.

Napoleon and I will be looking into them and fixing them.

Thanks.

Edit: I'm adding the below to help me keep track of what's been fixed, what isn't. Let me know if I missed something. Thanks again.

Not Fixed Bugs:

Time offset bug... (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=257394.0) Wish I'd known about this when it comes to SMF 2.0.2. Ah well, until this is resolved, the only way to fix it is for you to manually offset it by an hour.

Fixed Bugs:

Youtube Tags
Explanation for setting correct time in Forums

Feature Requests:

Chat button added. Does not open into a new window, yet. Edit: Now opens in a new tab! Sorry for breaking the forums several times before I got it.

How-Tos:

Profile -> Look and Layout ->

Code: [Select]
Time Offset:
Number of hours to +/- to make displayed time equal to your local time.
- Click auto detect. Click Change Profile at bottom right.

Is there anybody else whose avatar isn't showing? I don't know if it's a problem on my end or this end, so... yeah. I've tried rehosting it but that didn't work and it isn't letting me upload it, either. I can see everyone else's just fine so I just wanted to see.

Also, this is minor and not a big deal so if you can't get to it I won't pitch a bitchfit.

Link it from whatever and I'll see if I can't get it hosted.

I've said this before elsewhere in the forums, but I'll repeat it here to save everyone the trouble of searching for it.

[10:55:00AM] <&Oriet> Oh, Keiro, do you know how to get it so when a person makes a post, it redirects to the new post instead of the board it was in?
[10:55:03AM] <Shane_for_Wax> SMF'd admin CP managed to completely throw me when I first played with it.
[10:55:29AM] <@KeiroSleeps> Yup, I described that step in the Forum Issues thread, iirc.
[10:55:36AM] <&Oriet> Ah, okay.
[10:55:39AM] <Shane_for_Wax> Oriet: http://forums.fstdt.net/profile/?area=theme ---> return to topics after posting by default
[10:55:44AM] <@KeiroSleeps> er...
[10:55:47AM] <@KeiroSleeps> no, I didn't.
[10:55:55AM] <@KeiroSleeps> But I've said it elsewhere before.
[10:56:02AM] <@KeiroSleeps> I'll add that to the Forums Issues

OK I hit quick reply a couple times and instead it posted in the most recent topic instead of the one I was reading.

I really hate it when people go, "Oh, derp! It was me that made the mistake, not the computer."

Ah. Now I understand. I was wondering how you were encountering the issue, because I'd thought there might be browser-specific issues that would be the cause.

That's why I insist on getting explanations, no matter how stupid it sounds to you.

Maybe I am missing where the field is located, but how do you change your forum time? Mine is set for DST so it is a hour ahead of what time it really is and I've looked all over account settings etc trying to find how to change it.

See above, CAF. Step's described.

Edit: Whoops, no it's not, editing in description.

I'm still having issues with the time. Auto-detect originally said -5, but keeps reverting to 0 now and screws up my time as a result.
Title: Re: Forum Issues
Post by: Keiro Dreamwalker on January 05, 2012, 10:51:36 pm
If auto-detect's not working, you should be able to manually set it at same place. Alternatively, check your time and see if it's being synced correctly.

Um... I had to make a new account because I couldn't log in on my old one. I know I had the username and password right, but it wouldn't let me log in. I tried to retrieve my password, but it said my email was not associated with my account... Is this due to the new forums?
Title: Re: Forum Issues
Post by: Napoleon the Clown on January 06, 2012, 04:58:00 am
That would be because this is an entirely new forum that exists on a different server and none of the old names came with it.

New forums means new server means no old information from the other forum/other server which means new registration is required which means nobody has their old posts unless they check the old forum.

So, yes.

0 offset should be the proper time for you, Sleepy. That's what I have it set to and the time is correct, so should be correct for you considering we're in the same timezone.

Same here. At first -5 was the correct time, but now it's 0.

So the last 2 days there have been lots of downtime on the forum. I hope the server and stuff is ok.
Title: Re: Forum Issues
Post by: Keiro Dreamwalker on January 11, 2012, 10:35:52 pm
It is. The issues were due to one client. I've been working on this nearly non-stop.

Unlike Proboards, though, I have actual, /direct/ control over the server that this forum resides on.

What happened was a regular weekly maintenance script that optimizes and repairs ALL databases on the server choked and died on a client's SQL.

It subsequently brought nearly everything down. I was able to bring it back since it was still online, just responding very slowly via SSH. That done, I set about fixing the issues encountered. It took over 5 hours to fix because of that one goddamn client of mine.

All's fixed... as for the recent outage, it appears one of our datacenter upstream peers up and died from the traceroutes I was provided during the outage while I was sleeping because during the entire ordeal, I had little to no sleep. :x

I'm fully rested now, though, so I'll be keeping this server under deeper monitoring until I'm absolutely sure the server's 100% OK.

Can you get rid of the "LOL, someone else posted while you were typing, so we won't actually post this even though you fucking hit 'Post!!!'" issue?  I tend to not notice the warning until I'm hitting Backspace to go back to the thread.  Which means I lose the contents of my post.

In ten years of posting stupid shit on the Internet, I've never been on a forum before where such a warning is implemented, and it's fucking annoying, especially in threads that tend to get lots of rapid-fire updates at the time of day you're posting.

That feature's actually been handy for me, but I can see how it'd get annoying in something like the P&G section.

It can be turned off, in Look and Layout (http://forums.fstdt.net/profile/?area=theme) there's a checkbox that says "Don't warn on new replies made while posting." Check it, and problem solved.

So I know we went through a DNS and server change (or at least, i got that message earlier today).

Now the move broke my avatar - I reuploaded it - and introduced some bizarre ass characters in posts I've never seen before.

Quote
Well, M.I.A. stands for Missing In Action. And, uh…

Yeah, I don’t know, either. I wonder if that is more evidence of my “upper class bubble…”

I mean, I know that some of those are like for European languages, and I recognize the cent sign, but the order they're arranged in makes no logical sense, unless maybe they were created by corrupted/improperly read data or some shit.

I've been getting the same type of stuff.  Happens on both IE and Firefox.

I had the same issue with my username and quote in my sig. Replacing the gibberish with the proper characters took care of it. This kind of stuff isn't uncommon when copying/moving files containing certain punctuation characters, and it's pretty easy to fix.

Hello,
I've tried to submit a quote to RSTDT, yet when I clicked the final submission nothing happened (I just got sent to the main page). Is there supposed to be a wait before the post can be seen, due to a moderator validation requirement or something?

Edit: This is weird. Now I see that the quote has actually been submitted. It can be seen by using the direct link:
http://www.fstdt.com/QuoteComment.aspx?QID=87298

... but is not listed in the archives, and can't be accessed with the search engine. What's going on here? ???

Have you tried force-reloading the page?

Also, what browser are you using?
