Title: The Haiku Thread
Post by: Sleepy on February 16, 2012, 12:25:30 pm
This thread is for those
Who wish to speak in haiku
Challenging, it is

I often wonder
If I could do this all day
Tis my endeavor

Please, feel free to post
Each haiku feeds my starved soul
Tasty, tasty soul...

Ah, Sleepy, my friend
So good to see culture here
I hope this thread grows.

With hunger inside
This fresh morsel for your soul
A dish best served cold?

Now I wait to see
What haiku others might post
With much interest.

Odd that last one was
I say interest in 2 beats
My good old chap Jack

Another one from the greatest writer of a generation:

Quote
The salmon swim at night.
Towards your room.
The snow and the moon.

I sell haiku shirts,
But I've only sold just one.
Three dollars for me.

It would seem you did
Compose in correct metre
And proper measure.

Maybe I should start a sonnet thread - in iambic pentameter, no less. It's all the rage with us badass poets, don't ya know.

A true sonnet thread?
My, that would make my brain hurt
Clever, clever man

Sonnets are a bitch.
Had to do them in high school.
Never got it right.

Fourteen lines, each line
Containing ten syllables
Thus easy peasy!

But not so easy
That iambic pentameter -
A bit of a bitch!

You have all been warned.

Seven syllabels is
Iambic pentameter
No room for a "that."

The sonnets tempt me
I hear them calling my name
But such a challenge

As I said - it's a bitch (and it all rather depends on how one pronounces 'iambic'!)

...Eyembic?

I just realized, I miscounteed my first line there.

Jack, sir, your haiku
Is exceedingly vulgar...
I rather like it! :P

The problem with haikus
Is usually that of being able to stick to
The meter, which is important because otherwise you completely lose that sense of conciseness that is the poem's purpose.

Here's one of my favorites that I take no credit for creating, and some may have seen it already, but I'd like to share with those who haven't.

I see you ridin'
'round town with the girl I love
and I'm like, haiku

Edit: I'll just throw one together

Quinn and Mistah J
Drive around Gotham City
Pissing off the Bat

I don't know why, but I'm reminded of an awful song that I'll now put into haiku form.

I see you winding
Grinding, up on that pole, yeah
I want to fuck you

Was once explorer
Like you, then took an arrow
In the knee. The end.

No-one's done that one yet? How?
