Any particular reason or motivation?
I changed my avatar because I very recently saw a documentary about Father Ted and was reminded what a hilarious character Father Jack Hackett is.

I saw sandman's new avatar (WH40K Inquisition) and was prompted to use a picture of my favorite Space Marine Chapter - Gray Knights.

I used a default avatar before, but always had plans to work up something similar to what I have now. When I came over here, I didn’t care for any of the default options available, so I finally got around to throwing this together.

My signature is because I recently saw that remix of "The Riddle", complete with animation, and I absolutely loved the dragon/demon/devil character in it, so I made an animation of him.
Let me tell you, there was a lot of effort to actually get something that could make an animated GIF out of a WMV >_>

I loved my Legion avatar, but decided to use a new one for the new forum. That, and that dog is the man.

My signature will always be Urahara Dog, but my avatar changes once every few months when I get bored with it. Right now, slick Zaius is the way to go.

Because I needed an avatar that showed my general reaction to a lot of things posted on the mainpage and the religion/political forum areas.

Wanted to show off my friend's drawing of my most gender-ambiguous character and zir/his "come hither" look. Hellooooo there, boys and girls. *clicks teeth*

Gray Knights are my favorite too. I looooove their history. I have roughly 2000 points of Gray Knights.
I changed mine because I like this picture more than just the Ranger tab.

I couldn't find the last avatar if I wanted to, which I kinda don't. And I find the Trolldad meme rather entertaining.

I didn't have one before, but decided to get one for this board. Jade, because he's made of pure epic win.

With the avatar, I kept the Summer Glau pic, because I like to think it makes a semi-profound point about the significance of context.
With the sig, well, both the projects listed in the old one went awry. The Galactic Series (http://galaxiescollide.wordpress.com/) already had dwindling viewing numbers by the time I lost access to the blog. Shifting World, on the other hand, is more like Stalling World, and nothing's been done to it for months. I'm contemplating a whole new blog project, but I'm trying to make the balance between small enough not to take up all my time and big enough to convince (because it kinda suggests ambition, this one) work out, and so far it seems difficult.
Hmmm.
