By now, some of you have already seen Distind's post on the shutdown of the forums. It's here (http://forums.fstdt.net/index.php?topic=4735.msg183239#msg183239), in case you haven't. The short version is, well, Distind is shutting down the forums. His reasons are detailed in his post. Since I like this community and don't want it to disappear, I'll be setting up a new forum, not associated with FSTDT.
Kradorex has offered to host us at Digibase, using the same forum software we're using now (SMF). Since we would be a different community, we need a new name. A few suggestions were already brought up by the mods:
-Shit Said on the Net
-Wingnut Whine
-Shit Fundies Say Café
Anyway, since there's no particular reason to limit ourselves to ideas brought up by the mod team, I'm opening up to suggestions from anyone who wants to be part of the new community (hopefully, all of you). As well, voice any questions, suggestions or comments you may have regarding the new forums here.
-
Casting my vote for "Shit Fundies Say." The whole "Darndest Things" bit is a tad outdated anyway.
-
Casting my vote for "Shit Fundies Say." The whole "Darndest Things" bit is a tad outdated anyway.
Seconding. It keeps the spirit but updates the colloquialism.
-
Thirding. it's short and to the point.
-
I am going to say that I like Shit Fundies Say myself, so I am voting for that one.
-
Fifthing.
-
Another vote for "Shit Fundies Say Cafe", it's awesome.
-
"Shit Fundies Say" is pretty awesome, so I'll go with that.
-
More options could be: "Shit said about crap" "Crap said about shit" "Poop is crap. It's shit too."
-
Am I the only one who doesn't like that suggestion? Actually, I'd like a title without the word shit in it.
And I like the word darndest...
-
Shit Shitters Shit. Okay, that is a joke. And I'm sure "Distind's Rage Quit Refugees" is bad, so, Shit Fundies Say. Or, for new ideas:
* Shit Idiots Shit
* Moron Mockery
* Refugees From Idiocy
* Raggle Flaggle Blaggle.
-
I'd go with it too.
-
Shit Fundies Say is a good choice.
-
Shit Fundies Say is a good choice.
That, or Shit Idiots Say.
-
The only suggestion I can think of off the top of my head for a name would be something like "shit spewing fundies(dot)com.
I'm sorry to see you go, too, Distind. I hope you have a wonderful wedding and many happy years with one another.
-
Doesn't matter to me as long as some version of this board still exists.
-
I don't care what we call the new forum, I all I want is a link to it, and I personally think this is an unnecessary step.
-
but the main site will stay open right?
-
I don't care what we call the new forum, I all I want is a link to it, and I personally think this is an unnecessary step.
Agreed, 100%.
I also hope that we don't lose too many members from the shift.
-
Maybe we'll get some back but I doubt it.
Ironbite-and yes I agree with Nicki on this.
-
The forums would feel really friggin' weird without ironbite, honestly.
-
Unless Distind is dead against it, I'd like to keep the FSTDT name.
It has all the good associations already linked to the name. I like the 'darnedest thing' part of the title. Its connection to 'Kids say the darnedest things' brings us to appreciate how childish many of the comments are, and reminds us that FSTDT is a humour site.
As for 'shit' this or shit that, I'm against it. What, are we middle-schoolers trying to impress our classmates with how tough we are?

Seems like Distind has decided that FSTDT is his brand and doesn't want the forum associated with it since he made a couple of bullshit threads, got called on it, and is acting like a little cock yet again. Therefore, the forum needs a new name, regardless of the fact that it wasn't his brand to begin with.
So, basically, fuck us because he wants to take a ball and go home.
I'll likely register, but these temper tantrum shut downs are getting really fucking old.
Hey, there we go. How about "Temper Tantrum Shut Down" for the new board?
-
@John_in_Oz: Sorry, keeping FSTDT as a name is not a possibility. FSTDT will remain Distind's website (or, if he does choose to hand it over to someone else, that person's). We will be a separate community.
If you don't like 'shit', feel free to propose something else.
-
Well, shit. I've just gotten used to the place and we're moving?
I've posted so little I still get that New Car smell every time I click the Post button.
But maybe being on the "ground floor" of the new place will be cool too. It's happened to me before.
-
I've enjoyed being on this forum, so i'll definitely grace the new one with my presence.
I've tried to think of names for the new forum, but for some reason my brain is stuck on bad Mad Max puns like "Welcome to the FundieDome" and "Beyond the FundieDome".
Not sure why, it's not like i've even watched Mad Max recently :/
Shitty Mad Max puns aside, I think it would be a laugh to have a name with an acronym like SATAN, just to disturb any fundies that stray over.
Anyway, Shit Fundies Say is my favourite.

Hey now let's keep this out of Flame and Burn please.
Ironbite-but feel free to tell us all how you really feel in the subsequent Flame and Burn thread I'm about to create.
-
I agree the 'shit' thing sounds juvenile.
How about just "Fundies".
-
"Dumb People Say Dumb Things"
DPSDT?
-
Darndest People Say Darndest Things.
-
The Fora of God-King Sigma!
-
Twisted Knickers to celebrate fstdt's history and ultimate cause of death.
-
Man, and I was proud of my high post count consisting almost entirely of substantive posts. :( Oh well, good time to get a new avatar.
Ok, thinking about a name, I'll get back to y'all on that in a bit. What about the chat? Will it be staying? Will that also get a new one also under the same name.
I call dibs on starting the new pony thread. Guess that also means I need to marathon read the old one. Also, anyone know of a way I could easily copy down the entirety of my old F&B thread for future purposes?
How long until the new forum gets put up and this one get's taken down?
This is a long shot, but is there any way we could transplant the older, important threads that are long running? I'm only saying this because I thought it might be possible since we're going to be using the same forum setup.
-
Oh how about "Refuge from Butthurt Idiots".
Yes I'm officially bitter about this community having to move forum *again* because of admin temper tantrums.
-
Sh*t Fundies Say, just to keep it ok for the kiddies.
-
Yes I'm officially bitter about this community having to move forum *again* because of admin temper tantrums.
Here here.
-
I'll be honest, I don't see why we have to completely start over again. If Distind doesn't want these forums to be associated with the fstdt name, wouldn't it make more sense to just rename the forums? I understand if the intent is to try to distance this new community from previous drama, but if the idea is to have all or most of the same people, chances are the same sorts of arguments either will or won't spring up regardless. I dunno, it seems to make more sense to me to rebrand the forums we already have than to lose all of this.
edit: I can haz grammar?
-
Because Distind has made a decision! SO IT SHALL STAND!
Honestly if we're separating the forums from the main page in it's entirety, just nuke the FSTDT discussion and remove the link from the main page.
Ironbite-not too hard to do.
-
How about FiSTeD iT?
I wanted to retain the "Fundies" idea, because frankly it was around since looooong before Distind, & it nicely communicates what the site is about. I don't want names that rip off sites that are already pretty meh like "Wingnut Whine/White Whine," or generic quote archive names like "Shit People Say." The site is for a specific type of idiocy, & not constrained to the internet.
However, if we're no longer going to be connected to the archive, I guess we're no longer about that any more. Maybe "Formerly Fundie Forums"? Or "The Drama Llama Board."
Also, if Mira were here, I feel like she'd want me to suggest Fundierule Gaming.
-
I guess my only concerns are that a: we don't lose the archived material and b: that Winace's vision of a place to lampoon the idiocy of various fundies is kept alive. Just my $1.50c worth.
-
How about FiSTeD iT?
I think DoctorDoom has that one trademarked.
-
And I didn't even have time to get out of lurk mode! :'(
How about: Fundies And Liars Are Spewing Crap (FALASC)
-
Why not something like: Ignorant Quotes. com
Short, simple, and pretty much covers any quote that comes through here, be they religious, political, or otherwise.
-
Here's some stuff I got from the band name generator (http://www.bandnamemaker.com/), with some notes in parenthesis.
From using the word "fundies/fundy" in the word input:
Fundy cannon
spinning fundies
fundy stank
Fundy boy and the seething science
Fundy boner
fundy filth
fundy commode
fundy plague and the chest (remove or replace all after "and")
besides fundies
Grotesque Fundies And The Trousers Reverend
Random names I thought suiting of note:
Stomping Mentor And The Online Insomnia
Dark Prospect
Neurosis Innocent (change to "incident")
Copious Of The Obvious (Copious Obviousness?)
Dust Of The Crew
Orderly Psychosis
Seventh Tragic (Change number to how many times the forums been fucked up and change tragic to tragedy.)
Student(s) Of The Serial Sinner
Goddess Of Regeneration (Change goddess to "community")
Fighting motor ("Eternal arguement engine" - partially inspired by a level from Sonic Adventure 2)
Random cool names of note:
Junkyard Exquisite
Uranium Guild
Molecular Fixture
Pathogen Receiver (New name for Hof?)
Armored Jesus
Stuff I stuck together from interesting words I got from the generator:
Clockwork Abortion?
Destructive Explicitness?
Institution Of The Eldritch?
Deranged Brain(s)?

Its possible to pass the reigns to someone else do the right thing destind just hand the reigns over, instead of making everyone move. Who would that benefit? I know It wouldn't be of great benefit to me, B-Man, Eva, R.U. Sirius, Mad-Cat, night angel and the whole arena of people on this forum. I know it would benefit the one who doesn't want to be involved but that's about all I can think of. Is it possibly that you are afraid that in order to escape this whole thing you have to delete it to get on with your life and to not look back so to not have a temptation.
-
What about the chat? Will it be staying? Will that also get a new one also under the same name.
Well, the chat doesn't actually depend on the website, so it's not directly affected by this. Whether it will be renamed or not depends on the people who actually go there (i.e. not me).
How long until the new forum gets put up and this one get's taken down?
The deadline is September 16th, but I'd rather have the new place running as soon as possible. Once that's up, I'll probably close down posting and registration on these forums, let people salvage whatever they'd like from the archives and put a giant sign saying "Hey, we moved over to [new place]", until the plug is finally pulled.
I guess my only concerns are that a: we don't lose the archived material and b: that Winace's vision of a place to lampoon the idiocy of various fundies is kept alive. Just my $1.50c worth.
The mainpage will still be alive, probably. That's ultimately up to Distind, or whoever he gives it to.

Mine gave me "Poo Nation." That's what it should be named.

Gotta keep the name SFW as some of us work for a living :)

Given that we're going to have SMF again, might it be made the case that exactly the same configuration is used and the old forum's database is backed up using the SMF utility, sent off to the new server and restored with the use of, e.g., phpmyadmin? Then we really could keep everything exactly the same (except for the name), right?
-
Institution of the Eldritch sounds cool. Or just Eldritch Institute.
-
How about Fundies Say The DAMNEDEST Things
Because:
a)I don't like change
b)up yours Distind stop being so petty.
-

-
Institution of the Eldritch sounds cool. Or just Eldritch Institute.
Reminds me of Arkham Asylum
Institution of Eldritch or even Eldritch Institute is a wi-fi network waiting to happen
There is someone who lives near me who's wi-fi network is named Arkham Asylum and there's about 3 different people who work somewhere in the local mall who have TARDIS as one.
-
In the end I'm going to admit that the name is not the important thing here. The community, the people and the general atmosphere are the ones I'd like to see remaining (or improving considering some of the shit that goes down here.)
Still, my vote goes for: "Institution of the Eldritch."
Because, awesome.
-
Why not something like: Ignorant Quotes. com
Short, simple, and pretty much covers any quote that comes through here, be they religious, political, or otherwise.
I quite like this option.
Ignorant Quotes. Its short simple, can be abbreviated to IQ, and is safe for work.

Changing my vote to this.
-
Well shit, and here I was just starting to find my niche in the community. This is some deeply unsettling news.
Oh well, I guess if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen. I'll probably follow you guys to the new site ((Provided I can figure out how to get there)). After all, I really like it here, even if I did spend more time at the main site anyway.
On that note, I'm gonna place my vote for Ignorant Quotes because it's short, sweet, to the point and makes sense. That being said, will we actually be storing quotes on the new forum? Or is it just going to be a replacement for the boards?
-
Ignorant Quotes is the first name I've really felt good about, so I'm casting my vote for that as well.
-
In Distind's thread someone suggested Whaaambulance Garage. I like that.
-
Ok, Ignorant quotes is pretty good. I'm just not sure how similar to the old name I (and this is just my opinion) would keep the new name if we are going to be separate from FSTDT.
-
That was one of my suggestions. After all, someone has to go in when the Whaaambulance gets called XD.
-
Examples of ignorant quotes:
"Etymology is the study of insects."
"There has never been a religion that worships snakes."
"I think that Kingdom Hearts sucks because Disney sucks."
"I'm pretty sure Obama is the President of Australia."
"So 'The Dark Knight' is about a black guy who is knighted?"
That's why names like these don't work. They're too broad.
-
This forum is more than just talking about FSTDT mainpage. It has been that way for years. Therefore a new name that does not refer to FSTDT material at all isn't necessarily bad.
And for Lithp: Why would it be a bad thing that the name is broad?
-
Given the direction things have been going, I submit that the new forum should be called "Let's All Bee Friends" with a big smiling cartoon bee for a logo.
Joking aside, I'm mixed about this move. It really pisses me off that Distind is nuking the place rather than just handing it over. However, it might be nice to have a fresh start.
The part that concerns me, though, is that there's always a few good ones who get lost in the transition. This time it looks like it'll be even harder, since the window of time for people to know about the new forum is so short, and there will be no link on the main page. I wonder how old posters and new people are going to find us.
-
Just for a joke, maybe we should call the new forum "Daily Affirmations" which, of course, it isn't. Well, I thought it was mildly amusing anyway, but I'm tired, too.
-
"Frequently Questioned Answers?"
That's one of the names that was being tossed around before WinAce settled on "The Divine Comedy"
-

I like it! And, I'm sure that, were he still here, Sandman would have a hearty chortle at the suggestion, lol.
I, personally, like "Clockwork Abortion." But, that's mostly because it sounds badass.
-
I like Stuff Fundies Say Café.
It pays homage to the board's roots, while still being SFW. Plus, I don't care for the idea of naming our forum Ignorant Quotes when almost everything on it will be written by... you know... us.
-
^^ What Veras said. Ignorant Quotes doesn't make much sense as a forum name when we're not going to be attached to the mainpage. It sounds like an unintentional dig at ourselves. Stuff Fundies Say Cafe sounds like the best option if we want it to be SFW.
-
Well, let's start wrapping this up. If you saw suggestion you liked, second it here (unless you have already done so, of course). Later today I'll put up a poll with all the suggestions that had non-insignificant agreement. Winner of that is the new name.
-
I like Daily Affirmations or Stuff Fundies Say Café.

Just repeating this because I was about to suggest something like it myself. New location, new url, etc but less stuff lost (ie Sandman's posts ect)
"Frequently Questioned Answers?"
I gotta admit, that one's clever.
Stuff Fundies Say Café
This is probably the one I'll vote for, though.
-
I think just "Stuff Fundies Say" is perfectly sufficient. Tacking "cafe" on to the end is just a tad pretentious.
-
"Frequently Questioned Answers?"
I like this one.
-
"Frequently Questioned Answers?"
I like this one.

I like Ignorant Quotes and Stuff Fundies Say and yet I am upset about this move, I just got up to a little over 1000 posts and now I am going to have to start over. Also, the potential lost of everything is bothering me.
-
"Frequently Questioned Answers?"
Thirded. It's clever and to-the-point.

I definitely like "Stuff Fundies Say" (sans the "Cafe" & SFW), but I like "Frequently Questioned Answers" as well.
They both get my vote.
-
Well, the poll is up. Vote, and may the best name be strongly correlated with the number of people who select that name from the list.
-
Institution of the Eldritch sounds freaking badass.
-
Institution of the Eldritch sounds freaking badass.
Actually, I'm with you. I'm changing my vote to 'Institution of the Eldritch'. Though I'm surprised nobody suggested a parody on one of the forums we rag on all the time, like 'Rapture Unready' or something.
I think with this move, the thing I'm most upset about is losing all of Sandman's stuff. I never got the chance to get to know him, but I feel like his final thread should be immortalized somehow. Kept safe somewhere, ya know?
-

I want this! Let's all Bee Friends it is :)

Frequently Questioned Answers gets my vote.
-
Frequently Questioned Answers gets my vote.
It gets my vote, too! Especially since its a throwback to FSTDT's founder, and he really does deserve the (posthumous) honour, such as it'd be.
-
Since "Let's All bee Friends" isn't in the poll, I'm tossing my vote behind "Frequently Questioned Answers".
Will we be keeping the same rules (particularly the direct question, don't-tell-people-to-kill-themselves, and week/month/year/perma rules)?
-
Frequently Questioned Answers is a good one. My vote's for that. Maybe I can get Fyrenn to follow once the forum move is done...

Don't see why not; those rules have served us extremely well.

Will we be keeping the same rules (particularly the direct question, don't-tell-people-to-kill-themselves, and week/month/year/perma rules)?
I've actually been thinking about this since I got the adminship. I'll be drafting a new "The Rules" document for the new forum, but it won't be a major change, since the current rules are serving their purpose adequately.
As for those in particular: The direct question rule (aka the Skyfire clause) is a bit discordant with the general nature of the other rules, but it does seem to get results in moving debates forward. I'll keep it until I see it being abused. The "don't tell people to kill themselves" rule is more or less contained in Don't be a Dick, and I'm not scrapping that.
The week/month/year/perma pattern is going, though. I'll probably make week/month/perma the basic guideline (no 'year') and deviate from it as necessary.
-

Absolutely no idea what that is.

Looks like I'm gonna be happy with whatever possible name is chosen.

I got it from a random band name generator, what do you expect? The fact that it actually has made it all the way to second place in the naming has surprised me quite a bit actually.
I have to ask, without the main site, how are we going to get traffic and new members? I know we've never been a large site, but we still need to keep the in-flow of members at or above the rate of member loss.
-

No judgement on you or how you came up with it. I'm just saying why I and most likely others don't want it as a new forum name.

Yeah, I'll admit, I wouldn't be surprised if the new forums wither and die due to a lack of new blood. I haven't a clue as to what could be done to fix it, though.
-

Well, how 'bout everyone start thinking of what we can do and put some ideas forward. I've not got anything at the moment but I'll think about it tonight and hopefully have something by tomorrow.

That would be a pity. But unless Distind let's the link stay on the mainpage or someone spams it to the comments (not a good idea) I don't have a clue.
-
I have to ask, without the main site, how are we going to get traffic and new members? I know we've never been a large site, but we still need to keep the in-flow of members at or above the rate of member loss.

Well, how 'bout everyone start thinking of what we can do and put some ideas forward. I've not got anything at the moment but I'll think about it tonight and hopefully have something by tomorrow.
Maybe we could start our own collection of fundie quotes with blackjack, and hookers? In all honesty though, forums tend not to survive so well on their own (unless you're either 4Chan or Something Awful). They usually need to serve as a community hub for something else in order to keep the population up.
-
Perhaps we could become associated with Rational Wiki?
-
They already have a forum.
-
Yeah, fun fact, wasn't exactly being serious, so there is really no need to have something crawl up your ass a die over it...
-
I am so confused.
-
So many good suggestions but I like Frequently Questioned Answers the best so far.
I've lurked and occassionally posted in this community through, what is it? 4 incarnations now?
I will be with the new forum where ever it goes.
I can't help it, even with the drama and craziness, I love you guys. :D
-
Well, this sucks. Really wish we didn't have to move, but if we do, I suppose frequently questioned answers get's my vote.
I don't know if it's still up, but would it be possible to return to the refugee board? It's where I joined up, and there's a certain poetry to going back to it.
-
On the subject of traffic, we could create a site specializing in reporting and commentating on political, religious, psuedoscience, woo, and science news. We could also have a podcast about the same stuff.

Incarnation 1: The Divine Comedy Admin: WinAce
Incarnation 2: FSTDT forums AKA "The Pink Boards" Admin: Yahweh
Incarnation 3: FSTDT Regugee camp Admin: Distind
Incarnation 4: FSTDT Forums "SMF incarnation" Admin: Distind/Sigmaleph
And thanks for stealing the words off my keyboard, Jodie. I'll still be around.
Unless the admin/mod staff decide it's time for me to go.

The fstdt main page has a "Friends of fstdt" section. Perhaps we could contact those sites and see if we could get the new forums listed on a similar section there?
I think it would also be good to see if Distend will list Frequently Questioned Answers (or whatever) as a friend of fstdt. It would allow us to continue to gain some flow from the main page, even though we wouldn't have the fstdt endorsement. It would also honor the decade(?) long relationship between the two sites.
-
My vote goes to FQA as well. Also, I like MadCatTLX's idea for traffic generation. Whatever happens, though, I'll continue lurking at the very least.

Frequently Questioned Answers could pertain to our content as readily as that of our targets. A title with "Shit" in it is hardly sophisticated, and indicates a certain lack of maturity. A number of other suggestions smack of inside jokes, amusing to us and meaningless to the casual searcher.
Let's be brief and provocative. Drool Fighters
* It clearly indicates an attitude.
* It will elicit curiosity, which could translate into visits.
* It's open-ended in the sense that we can include drooler quotes from any area of human endeavor, not just religion.
* It will compel adversaries who refer to us to associate themselves with the word "drool."
* My royalties would be modest; as an alternative the board can chip in and send me a turkey every Thanksgiving Day.
Vote Drool Fighters! It Will Make An Old Man Happy!

This was his 1,000th post and forum rules dictate that if a senior citizen forumite makes a wish on his/her 1,000th post, it must be honored.

No they don't. I don't care how good your ass looks in tight jeans either.
-
for what it's worth about traffic, I do mention this place regularly to my friends...
-
Changed my vote to Frequently Questioned Answers. At first I didn't like it, & thought it was too wordy, but reading the context made me change my opinion. It still had a wordiness problem, but eh.
And for Lithp: Why would it be a bad thing that the name is broad?
...Why don't we just call it "A Message Board," by that logic?

Is it strange that I like that one, for no other reason than it'd be the perfect smart-ass board name?

Yeah, and it could have a tagline like "Where People Talk About Things"
-
Works for me!
+1 Vote.
-
I don't know, but part of me does, as well.
-
I was gonna suggest "Moronic Ignorant Quotes", but I love "Frequently Questioned Answers" too much to pass up. So FQA gets my vote.
*EDIT*:
Either that or I could also suggest "The DERPorium"
-
Voted for Frequently Answered Questions as well, since it fits so well.

It is decided, then. "A Message Board" it is!

And now I'm mad I didn't put "A Message Board" on the poll, would've been the best title. Oh well.
Our name has been decided as Frequently Questioned Answers, so huzzah for that. Also, it seems we should be able to save everything on this forum and set it up on the next one, so huzzah for that as well.
-
Three cheers for Sigma!

Except the mainpage link, but even if there was at first a glimmer of hope that that could be kept (even under "Friends of FSTDT" rather than the top banner), I imagine that boat has sailed given all the vitriol hurled at Distind since he announced that the forum would no longer be directly affiliated with FSTDT.
-
So will anything happen to the IRC? I assume not, but it's something that I consider important to consider.
-
As far as I'm aware, unless Distind wants us to change the IRC name, nothing will happen to it.
And if it does change, I'm sure we'll have FQA or some version of it available for us to use.
-
Good news is good.
-
I voted for Daily Affirmations, but I love Frequently Questioned Answers as well.
I'm glad to see that the new forum will have a great name.
-
Any news on when the new board will be up?
-
The move is nearly done. If you point your browser to fqa.digibase.ca, you should find the new address of the forums.
At this point, it just redirects to fstdt. That will change once the move is finished (more precise estimates on that coming soon).

Awesome :) All of your work here is definitely appreciated.

That's wonderful! We won't be losing anything important, like Sandman's thread.

The only thing I dislike about not losing everything is that I can't make a new "Thread Killer?" containing the proper intro post. I feel like I've forever failed Sigma in that regard.
-

Make a new thread killer anyways. We could always use a second one with our propensity to break off into tangents.
-
Everything's looking great so far, Sigma.

I'm sure I'm not just speaking for myself in thanking Sigma for making the transition as smooth as possible. Many <3s to Sigma. :)

Indeed. Thank you Sigma.

I just tried typing fqa.digibase.ca into the address bar in my browser and nothing came up. Didn't get rediredted to FSTDT either. Tried it on 3 other browsers as well and got the same result. Is the server down, or is my computer just being weird or something?
-
It's working for me.

I can't get it to work for me either... what's going on? I tried on both my servers and I can't get anything. :(
-
I got it to work too, but I was signed out in that window, for some odd reason.
-
I got a hold of Kradorex in the fstdt IRC and he fixed an issue, so it's working for me now. :)

Likely because its, technically, a different site and therefore has a different set of cookies; the two don't mingle with one another even though both URLs are pointing to the same location.

What would be cool is if we start a new one, get the old one locked, collect the Thread Killers of previous board incarnations, and put the whole shooting match in it's own area on the new board. Make it the Thread killer through the ages.
-
That is the best idea I've ever heard for anything ever.
-

Works for me too, now. Maybe it was a regional issue? I thought I read somewhere that you live in the same city I do. I don't know if that would affect it though. But whatever, it works now so that's good.

It was an issue with our contracted DNS secondary servers. Our central server (ns.digibase.ca) was updated, but our secondaries (externally hosted, ns2.digibase.ca and ns3.digibase.ca) that are supposed to synchronize records failed to do so.
DNS is essentially the phonebook of the Internet, changes names, (e.g. fqa.digibase.ca) into IP addresses (e.g. 72.38.129.202) so computers can connect using names, authoritative DNS servers hold records for a domain name and and respond for that domain. What happened here is some people were getting replies from our own in-house authoritative (Which had the record, they got access) while others were getting replies from our secondary authoritatives (Which did not have the record, which caused connection failed errors).
This has since been corrected as Nightangel brought the issue of the de-synchronization to my attention.
-
Thanks Sigma.

So is the new board up yet? If so, what's the link?

Makes sense. I know absolutely nothing about stuff like this, so thanks for the explanation.

Well this looks new. This the layout of our new digs?
-
Looks pretty snazzy, I gotta say.

I have a question: is there a way to always stay logged in here? Obviously not really a big deal, just wondering if there's something I've missed or whatever.

I was about to ask the same. It seems to only let me stay logged in for a few hours.
-
yeah, next time you log-in, just click the box that say "always stay logged in"
-
There is no such box. Hence the problem. Unless it's somewhere hiding. Because I had that box checked before the move. And looked for it again. Nothing.

1. Log out
2. look at the top left hand corner of the page at "Welcome, Guest. Please login or register." and click on "login"
3. Look at the bottom box above the "login" button. It should be a small square box that says "Always stay logged in:" click on the box
4. Press the login button at the bottom
5. profit
-
Yeah I was wanting the quick login one. No matter I'll go the long way if I have to.

For some reason, the logo in the browser bar still uses the FSTDT logo. (I use Firefox.) Just FYI.

So, this place is closing down?? I just joined!!!

You don't pay much attention to dates do you?

This place is not closing down, fortunately. This was the announcement when we separated from FSTDT and became FQA

At last a topic I can reply to!
