Title: Now this is different...
Post by: rageaholic on March 16, 2012, 04:57:35 pm
A Jewish Fundie blasting Christians (http://www.torahandspirit.com.istemp.com/christianitybeast.htm)

Usually, it's the Christian fundies blasting everyone else.  I mean, I'm no fan of Christianity, but these accusations of Christians being filled with the spirit of Satan are not any less ridiculous than the crap Christian fundies say.

Just goes to show you how unreliable a literal interpretation of any holy book is.

About as persuasive as all the bullshit emanating from other religions.

lol wut the fuck

It's especially funny because according to interpretations of the Book of Job, he is actually under God's command and cannot act without his express permission.

Ah yes, one of my few (not to be confused with small) problems with Judaism...

...Anyone who converts to Christianity is treated as worse than a traitor.

(I may be exaggerating a bit)

...However, this is still amusing.

I thought Satan and Hell didn't exist in Judaism.

Jews believe in Satan. They don't believe in the Fall. As far as we're concerned, Satan is still up in heaven working for G-d.

Yep first mention of hell and the 9 circles was Paradise Lost.....not that epic poem called the Divine Comedy.

Ironbite-though it goes back further when you realize where the word "hell" actually came from.

You're kinda wrong.  9 Circles of Hell were mentioned in the Divine Comedy by Dante first.  Though the concept of hell isn't something new of course.  Every religion has a place of punishment.  Christianity just...stole a lot of it.

Ironbite-their hell is a really patchwork of other hells.

Sheol?   I think it means "The Grave".  Just nothing but that.  Though when I think about it ceasing to exist entirely sounds worse to me than a hellish afterlife because at least you'd be existing.  I've grown rather accustomed to that.

Didn't the term "Hell" actually come from "Hel", from Norse mythology?  Or am I totally off here?

It could have.  I'm rusty on my religions and mythology.

Hell, if what my research into the subject tells me, came from an amalgamation of several afterlife punishment stories.  Kinda like how Christianity came bout after stealing from several other religions to form itself.

Ironbite-tale as old as time.

Can't tell if you're telling me that I'm wrong or if you're saying that honestly.

If I'm wrong, I apologize. I've never had the chance to read either, and there is a chance that I may not remember correctly >.<

The modern idea of Hell and the 9 circles came from the Divine Comedy. The idea of the Devil being the ruler of Hell and King of Demons came from Paradise Lost, where he says "better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven".

Judaism has more of a "purgatory" than a hell where souls go to get their sins washed away, and then they're reborn. It's a washing machine, not a garbage dump. Regardless, there is not an exact doctrine on the afterlife, so it is open to speculation. http://judaism.about.com/od/judaismbasics/a/Afterlife-In-Judaism-Jewish-Beliefs.htm (http://judaism.about.com/od/judaismbasics/a/Afterlife-In-Judaism-Jewish-Beliefs.htm)

I thought Hell was ancient Hebrew for Northern New Jersey.

Yeah, I hear the existance of a hell (or at least the fire and brimstone one) is only accepted in fundie circles anymore.  Most just view it as a state of mind or "seperation from God".    These wackos are saying that Christians need to repent or they will end up in a lake of fire, which is borrowed from Revelations.  Ironically, their language about repentance and threats of a lake of fire sound a lot like Christian concepts.

As far as Satan, some people think Satan possessed the talking snake. (http://www.gotquestions.org/Satan-serpent.html)  I'm not kidding.  These are Christian fundies, but it covers the Old Testament (and is a pretty hillarious read).  It's amazing the leaps people make to wrap their head around such absurd concepts.

If it's any consolation, I don't understand a lick of Hebrew, and you seem proficient enough to at least swear in it.

And that is why Aqua Teen Hunger Force takes place there.
