The following has happened a lot:

1. A thread about a controversial topic is posted.

2. I read it, maybe get involved a bit

3. The thread turns into a huge flaming argument.

4. As I dislike arguing with people over the Internet for extended periods of time, I leave the thread, ignore it, and do more interesting stuff on the forum.

5. After a few weeks, someone opens a Flame and Burn thread for the sole purpose of attacking another forum member, based mostly on the argument thread.

6. Either the thread starter or the thread's target leaves permanently or gets banned. Others may do the same. As I have been ignoring the original argument since 2-3 pages after it started, I am left wondering what happened.

It wouldn't if not for the fact that we've lost a lot of good members this way. The worst was probably when Napoleon, Oriet, Vene, Magnizeal, and Mira among others all left over some argument (I forget exactly what it was about, possibly someone posting MLP porn in the NSFW section we had at the time?). All of them had been some of our best members and while I stayed far away from whatever the issue was I still can't think of anything that would be so terrible as to cause that big of a problem and I'm still baffled as to what happened then.

Then QueenofHearts left after some argument over the use of "die cis scum," and then the forum nearly died out entirely after Distind left over...I honestly can't remember what that one was about.

My problem is not the arguments in and of themselves; rather, what they've done to the forum.

While I don't mourn the loss of Naps, Vene, or Distind, the rest...yeah, kinda wish they'd come back.  On second thought, despite how much of an abrasive arse he was, I'd like to see Vene back, just to watch him rip certain folks here the hell apart.

Nappy and co left over Sugergate

Queenofthespankableass left because she felt she was getting disrespected

Distind left because he was a transphobic retard who's views came out after he stepped down as head of this insane asylum.

Ironbite-and then there's others who've just quietly dropped off the face of the earth who I'd like to have come back.

Don't forget when Keiro left because he'd basically financially ruined two members, nearly butt-fucked Operation Miles, and THEN fled to Mexico to avoid being brought up on charges by Eni.

Eni left for basic training a long while back.

Miles left because everybody was fighting, a bit before Queen buggered off, and he just couldn't take the heat, so he got the fuck out the kitchen blast furnace.

Please describe. I am not sure I recognize that term,. All I remember is some thread in the NSFW section turned into a huge argument over ponies and they all left shortly afterward. Since NSFW no longer exists, the thread doesn't exist either, so I have no way of going back and reading it.

EDIT: Apparently we're talking about two different things. "Sugargate" and "Ponygate" are listed as the main causes of "the Nap Crisis" or "Nappygate" and there was also one reference to something called "Shanegate." The problem is that "Sugargate" seems to be a standard political argument over a rather stupid issue and I can't imagine why anyone would seriously try to defend pony porn enough to cause a big forum crisis. I really don't know what "Shanegate" is a reference to.

Sugargate was some argument over the elements of sugar or something.  Vene used science and the rest of the forum exploded up his face.

Ironbite-Nappy didn't help things by giving out warnings for stupid reasons.

Interesting. The way I remember it, Distind had a perfectly reasonable position on transpeople but he wasn't tolerating the fringe elements of the social justice circlejerk. Naturally, the SJ crowd dogpiled on him in something that reminded me a little too much of PZ's crowd.

I know he's not coming back, but you guys did chase him away.
