Option 3: Localizing Steven Universe in a way that erases two woman-looking beings being intimate is homophobic.

and ill say it again: a company making the decision not to ship/localize their game to a certain region isnt censorship. they just dont want to send it there.

which is quite different from the censorship of a lesbian relationship by corporate authority

I'm sorry, all I see is "Double standard double standard double standard."

...sometimes two things are different and so it makes sense to have different standards for them. You can argue that any form of influence exerted on media to conform to some moral standard is bad, but you have to, y'know, actually make the argument.

Fact is, there's no meaningful difference.  Both involve prudes taking out content because "it might offend someone" or "because kids might see it."  It's the exact same fucking thing - you just don't want to admit I was right.

While I'm not happy about Steven Universe getting censored, I can't help but feel some schadenfreude.

When Sig bans me for posting furry porn it's meaningfully diffrent than banning me for saying "Gay people exist"

Since I made a promise to Sleepy, I'm going to take this elsewhere.

Consumption is not a politically combative act — refraining from consumption even less so.

Wrong thread.

Care to elaborate?

Because that's not why most people are against political correctness.

Care to elaborate further? Perhaps follow that statement up with why you think they are against political correctness?

Really, I'm interested to see how you spin this. Bonus points for mentioning cultural Marxism.

Because it makes it harder to talk about legitimate issues, for one thing.

Getting a complete thought out of you is like pulling teeth, UP.

"For one thing" implies you have more to say. Why not say it all in one post?

Let's be honest, the dude in the Wondermark comic is a strawman. People who oppose PC culture are not doing it because they want to physically trample on the feet of others.

Some of the people who oppose PC culture are incredible assholes but instead of using those real people or the real claims they make the comic made fun of them by making them even more ridiculous.

So basically, comic makes a good point but uses a strawman as the opposite instead of the real claims.
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
Aww, you guys rock. :)  I feel the love... and the pitchforks and torches.  Tingly!

It's not a strawman Askold. It's an anology. The whole point is that no one would ever suggest that you should be physically able to walk all over people without heed so why should you be able to do it verbally.

I mean, it's comedic exaggeration, but it's a comic. It makes jokes. It's not really the place for rigorous, nuanced analysis of opposing views. (Wondermark is not a specifically political comic, but it comments on social trends sometimes)

The idea being parodied and exaggerated is real, but it's not the entirety of opposition to political correctness.
