Why is Mallard green-headed in the top strips (like male mallards are), but black-headed in the bottom?

I think it's because the top takes place at night in the dark and the bottom takes place in the sunlight or something.

One of those weird "We screw around with colors to show that it's dark while still making the characters visible" things.

With good reason. I always hated Mallard Filmore for the obvious reasons Including it being such an obvious ripoff of Daffy. Not just the shape, but the cranky personality, too.
