My grandparents insist that the homeless in their area spent too much time using the phones to socialize instead of trying to turn their situation around. If that's the case more often than not, then I'm inclined to agree that it's a rather careless policy/program.

The characters in the comic, on the other hand, were created by a jackass.
There is comfort in contact with another person - and security in knowing you can call for help - I don't like that they can be abused - but I'm not sure if I would want to throw the baby out with that bathwater...

Aye.  The last thing we need is for our homeless people to become dangerously insane because they've been denied some form of comfort in basic human contact, even if its just over a phone.  Human beings need to socialize, they need to talk and interact with one another.

Take it from me, isolation will make you dangerously insane, if prolonged for a long enough period.  Been there.

...why is it a bad thing to give poor people cheap cell phones? We live in an age where you can be homeless and still be able to get in contact with other people and there are seriously those who view it as a bad thing?
We're giving poor people things for free, of course it's wrong. I mean we can look into this deeper, but your typical republican who agrees with that comic isn't getting past that level.

I suppose it's not actually a cartoon but...

1. Sandra Fluke is not single, she's engaged.

2. She never claimed to "have sex so often she goes broke buying birth control."

3. Who called Palin a slut? No, really, who? I assumed we all just called her stupid. Like the person who came up with this image.

....You need to buy the same amount of birth control regardless of how often you have sex. If nothing else, the Sandra Fluke kerfuffle has exposed just how damn ignorant right wing men are about what birth control actually is.

I've got one for Republican logic:

Republicans fought to keep contraceptives out of Obamacare.

Said Republicans though had no problem with Obamacare including Viagra.
Whenever I hear a politician speaking strongly for or against abortion, all I hear is, "I have no idea how to fix the economy!"

#2 really confuses and angers me.  The number of birth control pills you take isn't related to how often you're having sex at all.  It's a daily pill.  Whether you have sex once a month, or 3 times a day, you're still taking the same exact amount of birth control.

You people don't know anything!  All birth control is condoms, which are 100% effective 100% of the time.  Also, only whores use condoms.  If you disagree, then you are obviously a whore

I thought condoms let through every single virus while stopping sperm because condoms are really extremely tiny nets or something.

My mother has actually said this and was completely serious.

But they actually were trying to use their phone to get a better place in life.
I'd be more sympathetic if people here didn't act like they knew what they were saying when they were saying something very much wrong.

Well, that's at least partly true of lambskins. Those should only be used as sperm catchers, not STD protection. But if she meant latex...why would medical staff bother with gloves then? It's the same material. There is a lack of logic in that bullshit.
