Title: Welcome to Night Vale
Post by: Ghoti on April 26, 2014, 09:04:50 pm
I saw there wasn't a thread for the glorious weirdness that is Night Vale, so I made one.

Today's Proverb: if you feel alone, just remember: billions and billions of tiny creatures (statistically including spiders) are living on your skin. It's a good thing only some of them are likely to kill you.

Yes! I discovered Night Vale a couple months back and I'm still convinced it's the best thing ever! Just remember not to go near the dog park...

I went to their website but couldn't find anything.  Where is this radio show I keep hearing about?

It's also available from iTunes in the podcasts section.

Since this thread needs some sort of discussion: what do you think Khoshekh looks like? He's obviously feline enough for Cecil to call both him and Maru (or another box-jumping internet cat) a "cat", but I've never seen a cat with venom sacs or a tendril hub.

Maybe he looks exactly like an ordinary cat except for those things, or maybe the town itself warps your perception of anything that comes from outside (which would explain some of the, er... weird ads Cecil reads during the show).

Personally, I think Khoshekh is roughly cat-shaped and cat-sized, but has loose hairless skin the colour of an oil slick. The venomous spines run down his spine, forming a ridge, and the venom sacs sit under his front legs (in his "armpits"). The tendril hub starts under his chin and extends to his lower rib cage.

Other than all that he's a perfectly normal, healthy cat.

Oh, also, this isn't related to Khoshekh but I wanted to bring it up, I finally listened to Condos the other day and something I noticed is that Carlos sounds a lot more like a Nightvalian (Nightvalien?) now than he did when he first showed up. At the beginning of the show, whenever they'd quote him, he seemed like a genuinely concerned scientist very much grounded in what we think of as reality, but now it seems to be more of a genericized obsession with "science" and numbers and bubbling test tubes. I guess that means he's getting more and more used to the town, especially after the realization that time isn't real. I'm not complaining, he's as adorable as ever, it's just something I noticed.

I know, it's pretty neat to hear him go from "ahhhh get away from that microphone it's radioactive" to "what's that? gravity's out to lunch? I suppose the gutters need cleaning, might as well take care of that now". I'd love to hear/read his diary.

Edit: I love the tiny little "frick" above Carlos' head.

I'm not part of the fandom, but I have a ton of friends who cosplay characters from it. Usually Cecil.

May/may not be scouring the interbutts for Cecil's tumblr. Hint: I am.
