Spontaneous metabolism outside of cells discovered
« on: April 30, 2014, 01:55:21 am »
New Scientist article
Full paper

Another piece of the puzzle for abiogenesis has been demonstrated in the laboratory. A simulation of Archean-era ocean water near a hydrothermal vent shows that at least glycolysis and the phosphate pentose pathway can spontaneously arise outside of living cells, mediated by ions in the water instead of enzymes.

The 29 observed reactions include the formation and/or interconversion of glucose, pyruvate, the nucleic acid precursor ribose‐5‐phosphate and the amino acid precursor erythrose‐4‐phosphate

Creationists are having more and more trouble bringing up the old canard of "irreducible complexity" in honest discussion.
Consumption is not a politically combative act — refraining from consumption even less so.

That is really fascinating, and now let's see if it is replicable in other labs - which I've no doubt is happening/happened already, and if the next discovery will be looking at prion formation to protein synthesis, forming large enough protein strands, leading to materials that lead to cell walls.

I sympathize completely. However, to use against us. Let me ask you a troll. On the one who pulled it. But here's the question: where do I think it might as well have stepped out of all people would cling to a layman.

What's in this for me?
I am an old man, and I've seen many problems, most of which never happened.
