Unless, if they are trying to moonwalk.

And now I am imagining the relentless undead horde without an end moonwalking towards their victims.

Hilarious AND creepy.
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
Aww, you guys rock. :)  I feel the love... and the pitchforks and torches.  Tingly!

I am now imagining zombies infecting people by touching them with their ass.

If it's Michael Jackson, only young boys would be in danger.

If you look at it logically, cannibalism has great potential to simultaneously solve our overpopulation and food shortage problems.

I think zombies being so easy to kill is part of what makes the films so popular. In the event of a zombie apocalypse anyone can see themselves becoming a BAMF zombie killer. You just don't get that with other horror films.

Edit- Just noticed that i've missed a whole page of zombie talk.  :-[ Oh well...

Whenever I have zombie apocalypse dreams (And I have them, too, despite my distate for all apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, and zombie settings -- probably WHY I have them actually) zombies are generally nigh-unkillable, nigh-unstoppable, and it takes a team effort just to slow ONE down with physical abuse.

I'd like to see someone do something that I read about in the book "Zombie CSI". Whatever the vector, when the body first reanimates, it's a fast zombie, assuming it didn't die of something that caused massive muscle or bone trauma. Then, as time progresses, decomposition sets in, and it slows down more and more.

THAT, I think, could make a cool story and a plausible way to include both types in the same setting.
This always made the most sense to me. Even assuming the reanimated bodies don't decompose because of [Insert Plot Device], they will still fall apart from natural wear and tear.

One thing that has bothered me, though, is what stops zombies from consuming the people they catch? I mean yeah, they do eat part of them, but most stories show said victim getting up and joining the undead ranks, albeit without their stomachs or something. You'd think eternally hungry creatures would consume their prey to the bone, especially in large groups.
Her3tik, you have groupies.

There are a number of ways, though my favourite is simply to take them by surprise. They're just walking down the street, minding their own business when suddenly, WHACK! Penis to the face.

Most that I've seen DO have zombies stopping to eat their prey entirely if they can. The people who die and turn are the ones that the zombies haven't had a chance to consume entirely, whether from zombie hunters busting in to interrupt or a bite victim managing to escape, only to die later.

That would reduce the horde aspect of zombies. If zombies eat everyone they catch then their numbers will only increase from people who die from unrelated causes. Or people who got bitten during a fight and hid that from the others. There's always a guy who does that. But this would probably be rare and even if it does happen doesn't it mean that the guy did win the fight with the zombie(s) who attacked him so their numbers aren't increased.

The only way for the zombies to grow in numbers is when people succumb to whatever is causing the zombiefication. My favourite: Voodoo priest.

In fact, imagine a zombie apocalypse story where voodoo witch doctors are the cause. Rather than having mindless monsters randomly attacking people they are an tireless and fearless army of doom that works for the voodoo priest. Or several rival rival priests in fact. The survivors are caught between a massive battle where rival voodoo priests construct massive zombie armies (can voodoo zombies use weapons? zombie SEAL team 6? Zombie jet fighter pilots?) and attack the survivors to gain more recruits for their armies.

The most reliable vector for a zombie virus is one that can infect common sources of survival. Dump the virus into the water supply of a small town and see how long it takes for everyone to get infected (if we go with the tradition of even a tiny amount of fluid entering the body being irrevocably and irreversibly fatal, even accidentally getting some water in your mouth during a shower could turn you). Or the blood banks.

The most dangerous is probably an airborne virus, since literally nothing can save you for more than a short period. You can't find "a new source of atmosphere", and gas masks and their filters don't have unlimited shelf life or ability to absorb poisons. Canned sources of air aren't unlimited, and will rapidly run out as the air that you fill them from becomes deadly. And if every infected body produces and expels the virus as it operates, it'll rapidly infect the atmosphere until eventually wide swaths of the planet (or even the WHOLE planet) become a zombie plague.

In nature, there are two powerful urges.  The urge to eat, and the urge to reproduce.

Who's to say that zombies don't instinctually (shut up Firefox I say that's a valid word) hold back from consuming the entire body because of a twisted desire to reproduce?

The Walking Dead handled the problem of going global with the pandemic very well. And until season three it did appear walkers left enough of a victim intact to have another infected ( I thought my eyes were going to be stuck in the back of my head they rolled so hard at the single zombie that was supposed to have eaten a body whole).

World War Z the movie had zombies taking only a few bites and moving on. Their goal was reproduction. In the book they would eat until the virus made the flesh unsuitable. Food and reproduction.
