Trying to get social conservatives to tell you which bathroom they think Buck Angel and Jenna Talackova should use.
Quote from: Jordan Duram
It doesn't concern you, Sister, that kind of absolutist view of the universe? Right and wrong determined solely by a single all-knowing, all powerful being whose judgment cannot be questioned and in whose name the most horrendous acts can be sanctioned without appeal?

Quote from: Supreme Court of Canada
Being required by someone else’s religious beliefs to behave contrary to one’s sexual identity is degrading and disrespectful.

Objection! Protests can be legal and in most countries are as long as certain limits are met. Doing a protest in ways that violate laws or cause damages is an entirely different matter.

The pro marriage-equality protests were peaceful, organized and did not cause damages. Instead they got a lot of good media coverage and helped the cause.

Currently an Anarchist group is setting cars on fire as a protest against technological advancement and people falling out of the society. This has mainly gathered negative feedback and is unlikely to help their cause.

That last part referred to Finland. I'll write more after work.

The point of protest is to be attention grabbing. Some do it by being disruptive. Nobody can doubt how effective and fun it is. But you don't have to be disruptive to protest something.

Exactly. You want attention and you want it to be positive. Riots and other disruptive behavior should be reserved for occasions when playing by the rules won't help.

A minor update on the car burning hipsters that now the Finnish Anarchists are saying that this was not done by Anarchists and that Nihilists are a completely different group. Not sure if that's just a "no true Scotsman" defense or not.

EDIT: also, the area where the cars got burnt is inhabited by poor workers, poor unemployed people and poor refugees.

It is more than likely that the people who lost their cars cannot afford to buy a new one. And that's even if the insurance company pays them something for the lost car.

Oh christ, they're "Anarcho-Primitivists", basically people who think all technology is bad (I mean like "wheels and agriculture" technology) and we should go back to the Stone Age because they think life was better back then. They're considered morons even within the anarchist community itself.

It's especially bad when they do it with the social left. Yeah, because the world of 1984 is just so left-wing. Look at all those individual rights.

And fuck the term "regressive left" while we're at it. You're not being regressed by people saying that maybe the LOTR movies have anti-black undertones. No one's being put in an SJW mindslaver.  Freedom of speech works both ways you motherfucker.

Because there's no way social leftists could possibly oppose individual rights.

Have you never heard of anti-porn feminism?

You're doing that thing again where you conflate a subset of a movement (a subset that's controversial within the movement, to boot) with the entire movement. That's also an annoying thing.

And I reiterate: no one's being put in an SJW mindslaver. No one's being regressed by people saying that maybe the LOTR movies have anti-black undertones. I was talking about how people claim that discourse online is somehow censoring people, which is pretty much the only context I've seen "regressive left" used in. This is an entirely different can of worms.

Are the things described in the article worrisome? Sure, a lot of that is fucked up if true. But I don't really see the problem with wanting news to come from ideologically neutral* sources. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't take it seriously if someone was saying unsourcedly on the "SJW" side of Tumblr that white people invented cancer to kill off the Romani. You wouldn't pass that off as "news". Same with conservative news; doing some double-checking on whether or not the thing has been reported outside of the conservasphere is just common sense.

*for a given value of neutral
