Except that the authorities weren't the ones to get this info, it was given to them so I think it is legally a different deal than if the police had hacked computers without a permit.
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:

Aww, you guys rock. :)  I feel the love... and the pitchforks and torches.  Tingly!

Er, that's actually even worse.

Try presenting any of this in court and it'll swiftly be pointed out that it was purloined by shady anons on the internet and as such the veracity and integrity of any single piece of information from the pile can't be determined.

Chain of custody is important for a reason...

You're so silly. The law in America says the opposite of that. In fact, Coolidge v. New Hampshire, 403 U.S. 443, 487 (1971), says that the 4th Amendment was never intended to deter private citizens from "aiding to the utmost of their ability in the apprehension of criminals."
Does anyone take Donald Trump seriously, anymore?

He's British? Huh. And here I was under the impression that he was a troll.

Did you just refer to a Dubliner as British?

He was Anglo-Irish, so I think that qualifies.

Even during the 17th Century it was a bad idea to confuse anyone from Ireland as "British"

The Great Gaels of Ireland are the men that God made mad
for all their wars are merry and all their songs are sad.

On topic: I doubt this will go anywhere, whether the evidence in question is legally admissible or not. The people involved are rich and powerful. Most of them were already suspected of shady nonsense (probably by virtue of being rich and powerful) and nothing happened. One PM stepping down isn't going to unravel a house of cards.

Dublin being the capital of Eire though and not in Northern Ireland at all. The Northern Ireland you're thinking of is Belfast.

Edit: As for whether anything will happen. Yes, well it already has, Icelandic PM  and the raid on the European Football Federation for starters. Other more blatant wrongdoing and private individuals will be followed up by the relevant tax agencies etc. Some drug dealers will get the Al Capone treatment.

Will it result in systemic change in the global financial industry and its offshore havens? No.

Will it result in anything at all happening to Vladimir Putin? No.

Will it result in whoever leaked the information dying of acute radiation poisoning in the near future? Almost certainly.

Why radiation poisoning in particular?
