Eh, that's so-so. I like Bill Maher's view on drug dealers that they're just "small business owning entrepreneurs who are being crippled by government regulation. This regulation in turn drives up the prices of the products they sell and adulterate the invisible hand of the free market."
Not much better, but I think its good to frame these issues in a conservative perspective, if only for comedy.
Isn't drug trade run by huge cartells that exploit their workers, break laws and only care about their "customers" as a source of cash? Also instead of "entrepeneur" most drug dealers are basically subsidiaries who in turn are exploited by the "big-corporations" that are cartels, gangs, mafia and other criminal organisations. And don't get me started on the poor downtrodden farmers who produce opium and other "raw materials" but do not get decent compensation for their work...
Also no unions, job security and the retirement benefits suck.
Am I taking this too far?
Well I suppose some of the marihuana dealers are more like little "Mom and pop business" but they never get a chance for growth because aside from law enforcement trying to shut them down they also have to compete with the aforementioned international "big businesses." And it's not like the law or any international watchdog group would help them in this unfair and lawless business position due to the whole "trying to shut them down" thingy.
What I'm trying to say is that the biggest difference between a drug dealer and the local McDonald's is that one is run by unpaid, overworked local kids who try to push their products (made in cheapest possible ways with the cheapest ingredients with the manufacturer doing all in their power to not get caught in goverment inspections) for a price that is as high as they think you will pay (actual production costs have little to do with the price) all the profits going to some guys in expensive suits living in mansions faraway BUT at least when I go to McDonalds I can at least assume that my McRib(tm) didn't get transported to the country inside some university students ass.
