"There might be bandits in those woods," Caladur muses, "and it would be some small justice to bring their heads, still attached or otherwise, to the local law bringers. Or it could be some sort of vicious monster who eats fresh adventurers like us for dinner."
Caladur ponders for a moment, then says "I would rather risk dangers that might be along the stream, where we can at least put our backs somewhere safe, than to head into the woods, and mayhaps encounter someone or something that is much too prepared for us, and be attacked from any direction."
