I don't believe it affected visibility, since it applied to posters rather than posts, but it was anonymous. Plus, it was a like/dislike system, which caused yet more drama.

I think it depends on the forum. It may work for some and not for others. Kiwi Farms has a huge rating system and there is very little drama surrounding those. Maybe it's because the userbase are the type of people not to give a shit about how their posts are rated. But some forums can get into fights over things like a rating system and this is one of those that can't handle a rating system of any kind.
