I'd be more sympathetic if people here didn't act like they knew what they were saying when they were saying something very much wrong.

The Nile's flood provided water supply and nutrients to the soil in basin. This is one of the reason the Egyptians flourished. I know that in Thailand, farmers are protesting the Chinese government's efforts to build a damn on the Salween River because the river's flood water provide the farmers with their livelihood.
