Cow-bison hybrids (cattalo, beefalo) are also fertile.

Those are actually different genera as well (Bos taurus x Bison bison), not just species. As is the case with the wholphin (Pseudorca crassidens x Tursiops truncatus), which is why I believe the textbook definition of "species" is bullshit and needs to be dropped or at least revised.

Different human "races" are not different species, however, and in fact there is a lot more genetic diversity within different African populations than there is between African and non-African populations for one. While non-African populations do have tiny amounts of Neanderthal DNA mixed in due to interbreeding, there isn't anywhere enough to warrant a separate classification even at the subspecies level.

There is always some probability that hybrids will be fertile, but as population genetics become more distinct between subspecies, that probability becomes lower and lower until the species are effectively isolated; while individual fertile hybrids may spring up from time to time, the odds that they will persist as a population is vanishingly tiny.

You could say the species is actually the best-defined taxonomic ranking in modern biology. The higher ones (genera, class, etc) are arbitrary holdovers from our Linnaean understanding of the field.

Well you see REAL welding (the kind practiced by men wearing glorified oven mitts and wielding somewhat phallicly shaped tools) uses an electric arc which produce an intense WHITE light. This new age friction welding bullshit doesn't and it threatens to destroy real welding.

OR

It's a shitty metaphor for how bringing two things together causes friction that fails to take into account the fact that the end result creates something greater than the sum of its parts.

It is a very good metaphor for bringing two things together because at first there is friction and unless it is done carefully both might be ruined but if things go well the end result creates something greater than the sum of its parts.
