Title: Spencer's Gifts performs a public service...

...by providing shirts with such horrible, sexist messages, that you instantly know to avoid the people wearing them.

Have a link. (http://www.buzzfeed.com/donnad/20-examples-that-spencers-gifts-hates-women)

I don't know about anywhere else, but here in Portland Spencer's is seen as the epitome of douchebag merchandise. I've been in their stores a few times, and I've never seen any damn thing of redeeming value.

Ah, these t-shirts.

Worn by dumbass men and male teenagers who inherently subscribe to the belief that men are somehow meant to be controlling of women.

These simpletons have such a base sense of humor that all you have to do is say the words "kitchen" and "bitch" and they devolve into moronic chuckles that make Beavis and Butthead look like mature, well-adjusted individuals.

These sort of men can become the people who justify rape because a woman doesn't follow their orders.  They think it's their god-given right to put women in their place.

Ironically, these guys will probably make homosexual jokes, in a vain attempt to hide their own attraction, no matter how minute, to the same gender.  Expect them to fly off the handle if another man so much as looks at them funny in all seriousness.

Do not even weep for these men.  It is not an unfortunate twist of fate that makes them this way.  They shall reap the just fruits of their labor.

By the way, this soapbox is higher than I thought.  Can anyone help me down?

I've seen the warming the dick thing on one of those e-card things. Though it was "SHe slapped me when I said I was "heating up her dinner" which was a bit more funny. What the fuck is wrong with this store?

It's funny. One of my customers walked into the store wearing the "I Have the Dick, I Make the Rules" shirt--which angered a female co-worker of mine. As he walked out I told her I thought the shirt was supposed to read "I Am a Dick".

This doesn't surprise me since Spencer's has had this type of humor for ages. I haven't seen anyone wearing that type of shirt, thankfully, but they're all extremely dickish and serve as a good warning.

I'm a terrible person for being so desensitized that I just look at things like that and laugh.

Not really.

On a personal note, the first shirt (and only the first) is one I actually don't have a problem with because I view it as a reply to the female version (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1So3LA0yLZE/TW3fbQbLpOI/AAAAAAAAWME/qnCFJJGCinc/s400/i_have_the_pussy_so_i_make_the_rules_tshirt-p235288110496412911qn8v_400.jpg). So when I see either shirt I view one as saying "I am Bitch, hear me roar!" and the other as saying "I am Asshole, hear me *FRRRT*."

Who the hell actually came up with this shit? And who thought it would be a good idea to sell them?

I would have loved to be in the design meeting for these shirts.

Though I do think those shirts are idiotic and anyone who wears them is an instant douche, they DO have shirts like that for women too.  The one by me I've seen ladies shirts that read things like "I have the tits so I make the rules" or "Your face makes my pussy dry" and so on.

Not saying I like any of these, but Spencers goes out of their way to offend EVERYBODY.

Same here.

Then again, they also sell these t-shirts, as pointed out by the user sarahpuppylove in the comments section.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of this bullshit.

Oh, did you know Wal-Mart sells a novelty shirt that says "Cool story babe, now make me a sandwich." on it?

Yet another "joke" that annoys the hell out of me.

Ugh.  Well, guess they're also helping me know which women to avoid.

I find the stores amusing because of the sillier things, like Star Wars and Sonic shot glasses, magnets that say "Support Sex Drugs and Rock&Roll," and the infamous "I'm So Gay I Can't Even Think Straight."

The offensive stuff always baffled me, tbh.

Honestly, the only thing that is almost as bad as the rampant sexism in these shirts is that they're so goddamn unoriginal and lame. They're as hackneyed as a Jeff Dunham stand-up routine with Walter the dummy.

Actually after seeing the female t-shirts I don't think they are nearly as sexist. They're both lame and offensive, but at least they gave the ladies a chance to be assholes.

You saw the one with a guy on a leash, yes?

They're both lame and offensive, but at least they gave the ladies a chance to be assholes.

And how is that any different than saying...

Yes, these are the reasons why Spencers can be a wonderful store.  I don't understand who would buy those shirts, but they must sell if they keep stocking them.

I thought the leash one was an S&M reference.
Because at least we know they aren't being misogynist, they're just being assholes.

It probably is, but, from my experience, there seems to be double standards concerning male submission vs. female submission, at least from the sex-negative feminism crowd (not to insinuate that you are part of said crowd).

Case in point: There isn't a male equivalent of the shirt in question.

I guess the male equivalent would be the "teamwork" one with 2 male stick figures having sex with 1 female stick figure.
Sometimes S&M is viewed sexy only when girls are into it too, a guy that likes it might be seen as "gay" or something.

So "WTF, Social Justice?" latched onto someone posting about this with it's usual snark.

All I have to say to that Tumblr is "Fuck You."  No, I "don't  need a buzzfeed link" to tell me that the shirts from Spencer's are douchy or offensive.  You know, some of us...

A) Don't fucking have a Spencer's Gifts in our towns.
B) Probably wouldn't give two shits about one if we DID have one, or went to a city WITH one.

Not all of us are in the loop, you fucking twatcocks.  Go fuck yourselves.  Sometimes you're almost as bad as some of the self-righteous social justice warriors you like to mock so much.

http://wtfsocialjustice.tumblr.com/post/37696184551/really-you-guys-need-a-buzzfeed-link-to-tell-you

Honestly, I probably would address this directly on Tumblr if:

A) I had a Tumblr. (I really don't feel like signing up.)
B) Those shitcocks had an open Ask box.

Spencer's gifts sells a lot of awesome stuff too, but all their T-shirts are tacky and now offensive.

I like the weird toys & gizmos like Lava Lamps & Plasma Balls. Their Halloween stuff is pretty cool & I like the band-themed stuff & the sex toys.

Some gag things are neat, too, like those gizmos with buttons that say different phrases & make different noises.

I never went there for the clothing....just the tacky & funky playthings & decor.

The men's shirts are a bit more offensive because there's societal momentum behind it.  Well, "worse" may not be the best way to put it.  More harmful, let's say.  I mean, not that many people believe that a man's place is serving women.  But plenty of people (male and female) believe that women should serve men.  The men's shirts are more harmful because there are far more people who take the worldview behind them seriously.  It's the same reason that white racism is taken more seriously than black racism.  Are they both bad?  Sure.  Stupid and small-sighted, no matter who's being racist.  But whites still hold a lot more political power than blacks (even with a black president).  Whites still have better chances at promotion.  Police are less likely to target whites.  So, yes, while racism or sexism is wrong no matter who's doing it, there are times when you can say one side is more dangerous than the other.

But yeah, that all being said, both sets of shirts are pretty stupid.  Pity, because as folks have said, Spencers has some cool stuff.

I agree with this, but if you took the context out they'd be the same maybe. Like if we lived in a society with no history of sexism ever, the T-shirts would be equally bad I guess.
