Quote
A 34-year-old woman posed as a teenager to enroll as a sophomore at a small private high school in East Texas, officials said Wednesday.

Longview police said Charity Johnson was arrested early Tuesday morning after telling officers she was "Charite Stevens" and was born in November 1997. Police had been called to an apartment when the person Johnson was staying with said she no longer wanted her living there. Police gave Johnson a trespass warning.

Officer Debra Stiles said during the investigation, police determined she had given them a false name and birthdate.

Police say Johnson is 34, although jail records list her as 31. She was being held Wednesday in the Gregg County Jail on $500 bond for allegedly giving false information to police. Attorney information was not listed for her.

The principal at New Life Christian School in Longview said Johnson enrolled in October with a guardian and filled out paperwork indicating she was 15.

I just have one question: why?

I said the same thing.

After "why", my next question would be "how?" I've met some pretty petite women, but none past their mid-twenties who could convincingly pull off late teens, much less mid.

Drug dealing, probably.

I guess my first question is: was she attending high school while a teenager herself? Trying to make up for a missed education is commendable, even if she bungled the execution (understandable in that case). If not, the sleazy infiltration aspect is the only that remains.

So yes, why?

I suppose it is possible she is simply eccentric, and wanted to live out the scenario, "If only I knew then, what I know now, everything would have turned out better". But, yeah, more likely she was doing some kind of shady predation to sell drugs or to trick or solicit kids into doing porn or some such sick shit. The article quotes the school admins as saying she was enrolled while accompanied by her supposed and assumed (parental) guardian, so she was not in it alone.

My mom was still occasionally mistaken for a teenager up until her early 30s, and I still come across people who assume I'm as young as 16 or 17 despite being a couple of months shy of 28. It's not a stretch to believe that there are people out there who could pass as a teenager at 34 if they're relatively young-looking and dressing & behaving like a kid.

There's a reason "Dawson Casting" exists as a trope.

At least there aren't any reports of her engaging in any inappropriate activity with minor students.  Sadly, when you hear of cases where young men trying to pass themselves off as a teenagers, they get charged with statutory rape of a minor.  Usually, these young men go back to high school so they can play on a sports team.  For this case, this wasn't the first time this individual got busted for trying to pass herself off as a teenager to go to high school.  Apparently, that's why she showed up in East Texas as a "homeless" teen to be sponsored into a high school.

If she was a drop out trying to get a diploma she could've gone through an adult education center to get one, though when I was in high school there was a man there that looked to be in his late 30's early 40's that attended my school and I assume he was one of those that was trying to get an actual diploma. He wasn't a teacher that I know of and none of the students really said anything about him.

If she was just trying to finish high school, she's dumber than she looks; as has been said, it's fully possible for adults to get a GED or otherwise an equivalent to a high school diploma at adult schools.

So either she's unfathomably stupid or she had some not-very-good ulterior motive.

I've been told that I don't look a day over 75.

Ms. Johnson appears to be a habitual liar and imposter indeed.  She fooled a 23 year old man into thinking she was 18 while pretending to be 15 year old high school sophomore. (http://abcnews.go.com/US/boyfriend-accused-34-year-high-school-sophomore-shocked/story?id=23749066)

I really wonder about what is going through the mind of an adult who impersonates a high school student.  Is their life so sucky and unfulfilling that they revert back to trying to re-do high school?  Or is there some kind of underlying psychological or behavioral health issue?
