I shit you not.

(CNN) -- Iceland is working on banning Internet pornography, calling explicit online images a threat to children.

'"There is a strong consensus building in Iceland," Halla Gunnarsdottir, an adviser to the nation's Interior Minister, told England's Daily Mail. "We have so many experts, from educationalists to the police and those who work with children behind this, that this has become much broader than party politics.

"At the moment, we are looking at the best technical ways to achieve this. But surely if we can send a man to the moon, we must be able to tackle porn on the Internet."

Such a step is somewhat surprising among Western nations that, for the most part, champion free-speech rights. But the move wouldn't be unprecedented in the island nation.

Wow...and this just goes to show you that "think of the children" legislation is just wrong.

Ironbite-plain wrong...and I thought America had an issue with sex.

Whats weird is the nation seemed rather open to sex although it won't pass and apparently they don't have strippers

God damn it. Iceland is such an awesome place in almost every other regard. Why did they have to fuck that up by acting so American?

There seem to quite a few "porn objectifies women" and "banning porn in Iceland has more to do with feminism" comments.  These argument kind of  irritates me due to the fact that this implies that women themselves don't watch porn or don't have any kind of drive to want to watch porn (though I don't doubt that there is porn purely for objectifying women).

Apparently they've already banned strip-clubs and magazines, if the comments are to be believed.

Can anyone actually articulate how pornography is a threat to children? And, if such a threat exists, how is it worse than children viewing violent images?

Do they realize that what they want to do is completely impossible, as proven in China?

This seems like a perfect chance for Anons to troll these guys for many lulz. If the guy who created/backed this law has a website, how much you wanna bet it will be covered in porn soon?

Most likely by forcing all Icelandic internet providers to block any porn sites they can think of. This of course ends up costing somebody, be it the ISPs or taxpayers a stupid amount of money and can be circumvented by any dumb fuck in less than five minutes using a proxy or a TOR browser.

Hopefully this will be doomed to fail.  As has been proven before, banning something just because you don't like it doesn't work.  Not to mention that it's near impossible to truly censor the internet like that.

I actually had a conversation with a  woman who gave me the "porn is degrading to women".  When I asked her about gay porn she said "Oh that's all right."

Though as for this, unless they make their own isolated national intra net liek China and Iran, I'm not sure Iceland can pull this off.


But what is most shocking is how no one has posted this yet...
