UPDATE: The storm trajectory has moved westward and is projected to make landfall right over Mobile, Alabama as a Category 2. It will also heavily hit Montgomery AL, Jackson MS, Pensacola FL, and New Orleans and Baton Rouge LA. Almost all of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, either already are or eventually will get heavy rain and wind.

 Blargh >:(  *Lives in GA*

Rain would be really nice, as we need it.  The possibly damaging winds and twisters that could spawn from the storm... not so much.

And, my finely honed Hurricane Sense is right again. Absolutely nothing to fear from this storm. For Florida, anyway. Wind and rain? Pfft, that's a normal Tuesday.

What I would like to know is why the Republican National Convention was scheduled in a southern coastal city in the middle of hurricane season in the first place.

Who is the public relations genius who came up with that idea?

To organise plans for the Ditch of Hope, so when Obama wins it will become the Freedom River.

New forecast has it hitting New Orleans on roughly the same day/intensity as Katrina.

This could turn to Obama's advantage.

>hurricane hits NOLA/Gulf Coast region
>this time, preparations are made properly
>FEMA doesn't fuck up again
>good crisis management reflects positively on the administration
>Obama wins 2nd term because he did something Bush couldn't do

If the worst happens, it'll be more ammunition the GOP will use against Obama, no matter who's fault it really was.

Here's what makes me scratch my head...

According to certain very vocal conservative Christian leadership active in the GOP, God sent Katrina to New Orleans as punishment for the "wicked ways" of the French Quarter, and God sent a tornado to Dover, Pennsylvania as punishment for daring to prohibit the teaching of Creationism in their public schools, but apparently hurricanes hitting the USA on the day of the Republican National Convention twice in a row is just a coincidence. Shouldn't this, by their own logic, be interpreted as God's displeasure with the party, especially since the second time around He scored a direct hit on the actual Republican Convention?

Just another example of evangelical doublethink. When it happens to "sinners" it's a judgment, when it happens to them it's random.
