Ah Black Ops 2, propaganda made fun.

Also, this game seems to be quite good. I have played the demo, based off that and what has been floating around the intertubes, this game seems like a worthwhile buy. But I'm currently oscillating between Panzer General and War in Russia.

Can anyone find any word as to when the Technic Pack will be updated to 1.4.2?  I know the main stick is Eloraam and RedPower...just wanna know if anyone has any news that I might've missed.

Those clever, clever bastards...its like GTA IV was a practice act, testing new technology and concepts, and this is the game they wanted to make out of it all.  The fact that it looks like its in San Andreas only serves to make it even more awesome...because GTA:SA is still my favorite Grand Theft Auto of all time.

Also, I think I know why my Technic maps keep hitting the, as I call it, Lag Point...the point where all my facilities begin to lag the game to nigh-unplayability.  With each map, I game the system more and more...I exploit holes in things like Equivalent Exchange, IC2, and BuildCraft, and warp them in such a way that I can easily achieve anything I want, with just a few minutes' work.

Think I might just shut off my machines in my current base, fill up some lapotrons/blulectric batteries, grab some of my more important things like my rotary macerators and singularity compressor, stuff a few extra goodies into an alchemy bag or four, and just...start anew somewhere else.  This time, at least trying to not exploit every hole I see in the mods.

Still not using ThaumCraft, though.  Seriously, what's the point?  Almost anything it can do, the other mods can do, and they can either do it better, more easily, or many times, both.  I don't need magic, just the raw, fierce marriage of alchemy and high technology.

Well, Thaumcraft's point is that it's magic, more or less, and operates more on atmospheric power than, say, direct power.

If you're metagaming, I can see why you wouldn't see a use for it.  If you're normal playing, it's probably really fun.

I was about to play some Mass Effect 3 multi but then a storm came and destroyed the possibilities of it. So I did another mission in Black Ops II.

And then it made me do a strike mission. No idea what I'm doing but I lost.

Also my friend is going to make me play the first Dragon Age at this rate.

Well, I mean...from an in-game perspective, what's the point of trying to research, say, a Thaumic Duplicator, when I've already got the knowledge to make a condenser pressed into my positronic brain?  It can duplicate more, likely works a hell of a lot -faster,- and is far, far easier to acquire in terms of time and energy spent in pursuit of it.

From a metagaming perspective, this is even moreso, because the chance of coming across the theory you want is totally random, there's almost no way (that I'm aware of) other than the obvious stuff, to influence the outcome of your research, in terms of what arcane theories you come across.

Its cumbersome, its inefficient, and, if ya ask me...a little inelegant.  Though, I think that's more a personal thing.  IC2, RedPower, and BuildCraft give me massive technological boners.

Enjoying Halo 4 and Black Ops 2 very much but I'm enjoying Halo a lot more due to the fact that I can actually dominate the multiplayer.

I'm getting Halo 4 later on. Trying to avoid spoilers for that is harder than it was for Mass Effect 3.

Beat.  Hotline.  Miami.  Finished the puzzle, got the masks, got the good ending.  That game is one of the most brutally difficult games I've ever played, especially when restricting one's self to only the 2nd (secret-revealing, and nothing else) mask for the entire game.  In a game where masks can give you different weapons and abilities...some of which make certain levels (I'm not tellin, figure it out on your own like I had to!) much, much simpler.  LOLNOPE, I had to be as brutal to the game as it was fuckin bein to me.  Because I'm a fuckin boss like that.

And, I loved every second of it.  May even go for a 3rd play thru...or 4th, its hard to tell since I kinda skipped around a bit hunting for secrets.

FTL: Faster than Light: limitations and intrigue
« Reply #1302 on: November 16, 2012, 01:34:31 pm »
Ladies and gentlemen, I am willing to assume that many of you are familiar with FTL: Faster Than Light and the modding community that has grown quite a bit around it. Modders with more patience than I and contact with the developers were able to determine a lot about the limitations of FTL.

However such hardcoded limitations simply do not make sense as they only selectively apply. I will exemplify:

Quote
Question (shark):
2. Building up on some skills yields expected results; expanding shields/weapons/drones to level 10 results in correct behaviour; however the UI won't advance past level 8.
2.1. I could not find how to set tooltils for levels 9 and 10, or adjust the size of the textfield/label used to display them; I did however find the level_grid file which i adjusted for 10 levels accordingly but that just looks weird. Can you tell me how to change the tooltip size so that I can fit 10 of them?
2.2 How do these skills know what to do?

Answer (Justin):
2. The UI wasn't designed for >8, no way that'll work.
2.1 It's not designed to go past 8. I'm surprised it doesnt just crash on you.
2.2 I have no idea. Probably does nothing since they're hardcoded.

Question (shark):
3. More of a buildup on the last one, extending engines to level 10 starts giving 0 dodge on level9 and 10. Why doesn't it know how to advance properly?
3.1. Artillery uses "Cloaking 25 seconds" for it's level5 tooltip, however it works properly once supplied with a right asset; button_artillery_5.png and even it's timer works right. How to change this tooltip?

Answer (Justin):
3. Because the amounts are hardcoded and nothing was included for >8
3.1 A lot of tooltips are hardcoded (sensing a trend? :/ )

For the sake of testing and amusement I have decided to push FTL beyond its breaking point set by Justin (power > 8 ) by testing what others have found/discovered. The following was the result of memory editing via Cheat Engine 6.2. The below should come as no surprise to anyone as such values are stored as 4 bytes (32-bits / DWORD).

Oxygen level 10 works.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LurNrAHvS40" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LurNrAHvS40</a>

The oxygen system is one of the first aspects of the game that I observed to go past the 8 > limit. Examples such as this drew my suspicion. Why is it that almost everything else is hard coded but this is not? This applies to the medbay too! It would seem that the developers intentionally either left some aspects not hardcoded or intentionally hardcoded most aspects. Why?

Level 30 Oxygen, BRB oxygenating space!
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKz3L9c4S4o" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKz3L9c4S4o</a>

Medbay up to 10 works
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azeaD_pu-VI" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azeaD_pu-VI</a>

Here is a fun fact not shown in this video, it is actually possible to have your medbay upgraded so far that you don’t need oxygen. OPEN ALL THE DOORS! The rate of health loss due to suffocation is less than the rate of health gain. Add Engi Med-bot Dispersal and then you can have an entire ship crew of perpetual:

And the best part is that the crew can still operate the ship’s systems.

Graphical glitches occur when artillery is given more than 4 bars of power but in works.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFZpfqEJc8Y" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFZpfqEJc8Y</a>

Artillery gone wild.avi
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WISfcER0XZE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WISfcER0XZE</a>
Give artillery 8 or more power bars and it won’t stop firing due to the countdown timer having either 0 or a negative value. *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM**BEEEM* *BEEEM* *BEEEM*

Engines past 8 = 5% chance to dodge
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGJ6hXRXQAE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGJ6hXRXQAE</a>
Sadly giving the engines past 8 power bars only reduces your ship’s chances to dodge 5%.

Finished Black Ops II.

I... don't know but I think I fucked up. I got the "bad ending". I'm pretty sure I know where I screwed up tho.

Also, I wasn't expecting the thing after the credits.
