Klingenschmitt. You can find several quotes from him on the fstdt site.
Gordon "Dr. Chaps" Klingenschmitt, a radical anti-gay Religious Right activist who brags of having once tried to rid of woman of the "foul spirit of lesbianism" through an exorcism and who openly proclaims that "American law needs to reflect God's law" and that our foreign policy must be based on the Bible, won election to the Colorado House of Representatives last night.
Klingenschmitt, who wrote a book about how President Obama is possessed by demons and once performed an exorcism of Obama, ran an utterly embarrassing campaign yet nonetheless managed to defeat his Democratic opponent by nearly 40 points.
As someone from the facebook group I posted this on (
Religious Apologetics: The Delusional Matrix of Systematic Deception) said:
You'd have to understand his district (I'm from CO, thankfully not his district). He's in a Colorado Springs suburb. It's about as fundie as you can get. Think ultra-liberal Boulder and then the 100% opposite of it. That's this guy's district.
The GOP in Colorado distanced themselves from him. They didn't help him. I'm sure they're ok now as he helped retake the CO House. But this is a VERY religious and conservative district. They eat this stuff up. It also only has like 40k voters so it's a small district and if you resonate with the voters there, winning would be easy.
It's adjacent to the district where Kevin Swanson (google him, another internet pastor with an actual church, big time home schooling guy) operates out of. There's a cluster of dangerous crazy down there.
We at least have an explanation. Problem is: The state is still screwed, isn't it?
