Huh. They got rid of the $40 version. That sucks, I was thinking of buying it, but I don't want to pay full price for a multiplayer-only game. There's never enough content there to justify the price.

It should still be there. Its just hard to find.

Does this work. It shows 70 for me in AUD, so that should be 40 for USD

Ah, there it is. When I pulled it up earlier, I must not have dug deep enough. All I saw was the $60 Origins Edition.

Also, fuck how expensive games are in Australia. I know the Australian dollar is lower than the American dollar, but last I checked, it's not $30 difference for the same product lower!

Officially finished Dishonored. It's basically a modernised Deus Ex. Good fun, I would highly recommend it, personally.

Not heard that comparison before, most people compare it to Thief.  Not played the original 2 Deus Ex games, or any Thief games, so can't really say if I agree or not.

For what it's worth, Dishonored has you specialise in either stealth or combat through the power of collectable upgrades. Deus Ex is basically that, whereas Thief is pure stealth with no character upgrades whatsoever (at least to my knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong).

With exception for Deadly Shadows, which did have some upgrades, Thief did not have player upgrades of any sort.  Of course, that was part of the point: Garrett survives by a mixture of stealth, personal skill, and adaptability with whatever gadgets he's got.  Kinda like James Bond, only with fewer STDs.

I've only played the first Thief and in that one getting into a fight was heavily discouraged for most parts. Not just because it would give you negative points or something, Garret simply is no match for armed soldiers and guards in a fight. He can snipe them to death or knock them unconscious if he can surprise them but an actual fight is really hard.

So Deus ex really is a closer match as that one gave you the ability to make a stealthy character or a fighty one.
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
Aww, you guys rock. :)  I feel the love... and the pitchforks and torches.  Tingly!

Aye, that's one of the reasons I love the first two Thief games: even on the lowest difficulties, Garrett can only take a scant few hits before he's down for good.  Its a drastic, though very enjoyable, change from the norm.

Also, replaying Katawa Shoujo and...I'd almost forgotten what an emotional gut-punch Hanako's route is, even with the good ending.  Doesn't help that her...ahem, scene is one of only two in the entire game where the standard, lighter music isn't played, effectively underscoring the whole "what is happening is not a good thing" vibe its got going.

Sometimes it turns out that a character's Good Ends are actually in a different character's route. There's probably some overarching life lesson one could read into that, but, yeah, wow, Hanako's route is upsetting. You've got me tempted to play the game again, but I don't know that I could bring myself to go through her route again.

I did because Hanako's my favourite and, despite everything that happens, things do turn out relatively well.  I do get what you're saying, though, about her being better off in another route.

I like the sound of that, it ups the stakes.

Yo, any of you younglings played the System Shock reboot demo that came out with their kickstarter campaign? For a pre-alpha slice of gameplay it's pretty promising.

Link to the Kickstarter.

Yeah I'm pretty hype, especially since it seems like it'll meet it's goal with time to spare
