On an unrelated note, it seems Gary Busey lives here in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Didn't know that before.

I'm familiar with both saguaro and cholla.

I would much rather jump at the saguaro.  Aussie dude still wins Most Regrets.

Of course, yeah, the saguaro guy also risked getting in trouble with the law.  But I guarantee it didn't hurt nearly as bad.

While I don't know much about either cactus aside from what is see looking at them and a quick glance at the saguaro's Wikipedia page, I'd also rather the saguaro than the many-branched bush kind of cactus. It looks like it'd be slightly less painful, as there's much less surface area for your body to hit and the needles seem to be more spaced apart.

Off-topic: What's the reason for the somewhat overkill laws I hear about concerning saguaros? Is it that they're super endangered or is because they are so iconic and awesome looking that Arizona doesn't want people doing anything that might damage the cactus? If the saguaro is endangered, are there efforts made to manually plant new ones to being the population back? Cacti are kind of like the honey badger of the plant world, they live in pretty inhospitable places and will fuck up anyone or anything that tries to mess with it.
