Chopping Mall (1986)

Yes...another one of my b-movie posts.

Lightning is evil, at least it seems that way based on my viewing of movies. Not only has lightning resurrected/given life to Frankenstein's monster and Jason Voorhees, it's also been well-known to make machines go crazy and attack pathetic humans -the killbots in Chopping Mall are no different.

Four couples decide to have a party in their furniture store after hours on the first night these new robot security guards are put on duty. Unfortunately for these fools, lightning strikes the control center for these robots (powered by a Commodore 64C the way it looks) causing them to malfunction and attack! (now, why wouldn't these be monitored on their first test night, by the way...in fact, why wouldn't the whole place be under surveillance to begin with?). Needless to say, the killbots destroy most of these partiers in rather gruesome fashions...but I'm not really sure how they managed to sneak up on anyone considering they sound like a rumbling tank when they move.

I love this movie's overall score and the time-capsule of the mid 80s it displays. I only recognize one face -the guy who played "Scott" in Friday the 13th Part 2. The rest of the cast is rather forgettable, maybe except the blind date nerdy couple.

If you like 80s cheese horror and/or bad movies, this one is a gem.

Here's my favorite clip:
