Aren't most school shootings in the US done with legally owned and bought guns? True, occasionnaly borrowed from the parent of the shooter, but still...

I'm pretty sure the Sandy hook guy used his mom's guns to shoot up that school. Which I'm sure were legally obtained.

They were legally obtained by his mother, but you could easily argue that he stole them from her.  That one's kind of a gray area, and you could really count it either way.

Oh, but the image is very stupid.  There are plenty of statistics on that.

So it was basically a glorified BB gun?

Don't look down your nose at it; it can push a .46 caliber round into the area of 535 fps and be able to put a hole in an inch of pine from between 100 and 150 yards. That glorified BB gun will kill you from over a football field away and would actually be banned in quite a number of countries.

To put that in perspective, a .45 caliber 1911 can fire a round at 830 fps and has a maximum effective range of just 55 yards.
Have you seen some of the modern modern equivalents? .357 .45 .50 The Girandoni holds up amazingly well in comparison despite its age.

Now, to take issue with the poster, there were about 1500 Girandoni rifles in the world. In America they were so rare that researchers were actually able to find and identify the one that Lewis and Clarke used with a very high degree of certainty. At the time  there was one air gunsmith/shop, Isaiah Lukens, who apparently managed to get hold of one (perhaps for a little 'design inspiration'  ;)), and the number of guns like this that he produced was vanishingly small because there just wasn't any demand for them.

I guess nobody needed a high capacity magazine. ;D
I'd still like to own a replica, they seem pretty kick-ass.

A fedora is just a symbol of a stereotype.  They don't mock the fedora itself.

And half of those aren't even fedoras.

I think it has less to do with needing of a magazine and more to do with the required 1,500 pumps that was required to get it up to max pressure.

Fire it often enough and you'll be walking around with an arm like a fiddler crab.

They actually anticipated the demand for air and created a support wagon with a wheeled pump and a lot of extra pre-filled tanks. The real problem was that these guns were actually delicate hunting weapons that required a ton of maintenance and very well trained soldiers to use effectively. They were pretty much the complete opposite of the standard operating procedures of the day. Their forte was stealth and sniping high value targets (officers) which clashed with the whole notion that wars were supposed to be sporting so they probably weren't utilized very effectively which would have hastened their demise as a military weapon. One air gun and its expensive support vs. ten flintlocks was probably a no-brainer to a bean counter if you are going to use them the same way.

This guy has a bit of information on them.

One of the differences is that Nye is actually a scientist, Beakman only played one. Still more of scientist than Ken Ham, though.

Silly frummies! Beakman & Bill Nye are two different people.

But what would you expect from frummies? They're either behind the times or have no knowledge of any pop culture.
